Ordinance On Single-Use Plastic Bags Goes Into Effect November 1
Beginning on November 1, retail establishments will no longer provide single-use plastic bags or polystyrene containers to customers. However, retail establishments may provide customers with recyclable paper bags for a charge of not less than $0.15 per bag. Additionally, plastic utensils will only be available upon request from a customer.
Looking toward a more sustainable future, the Board of Supervisors last year passed an ordinance to regulate and minimize single-use plastic bags, utensils, and expanded polystyrene (aka Styrofoam).
By promoting the use of reusable alternatives, the Township aims to curb litter in the community, protect local waterways, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce solid waste generation.

Eastbound Skippack Pike Closure Continues
The gas pipeline repairs that have closed eastbound Skippack Pike (Route 73) in the Township have been extended until approximately October 24. The work is extended due to the nature of the repairs that must be completed by the gas pipeline company, Enbridge.
The eastbound stretch of Skippack Pike, between Narcissa Road and Butler Pike, will remain closed and detoured 24/7 during construction. Motorists will be directed to use Penllyn Blue Pike, Morris Road, Butler Pike. Trucks will be directed to use U.S. 202, Route 63 (Welsh Road), Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike).
Skippack Pike westbound will remain open to traffic. Local access will be maintained at all times.

Tips for A Safe Halloween
The decorations outside homes and candy in stores are a sign Halloween is nearing. As you prepare, here are some safety tips from the National Safety Council to make it a safe and happy Halloween.
Costume Tips
- All costumes, wigs and accessories should be fire-resistant.
- If children are allowed out after dark, fasten reflective tape to their costumes and bags, or give them glow sticks.
- Use nontoxic Halloween makeup instead of masks, which can obscure vision; always test makeup in a small area first to see if any irritation develops.
- Remove all makeup before children go to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation.
Trick-or-Treat Tips
- A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds.
- If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you.
- Agree on a specific time children should return home.
- Teach your children never to enter a stranger's home or car.
- Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends.
