“A vacation helps to relieve stress and boredom, gives us a change of scenery, provides us with adventure, and helps to bring us closer to the people in our lives.”
– E. S. Woods
As February draws to close, many of our New England colleagues are returning from their winter breaks. I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy some time off in a warm climate -- or, at the other extreme, take part in one of the numerous outdoor winter activities available closer to home in New England.
The mad dash from Thanksgiving to New Year's is certainly a hectic time as we all juggle our roles and the holidays; while it’s enjoyable, it goes by in a blur. Winter break seems a little slower. It is a chance to change the scenery and can be a time to make travel plans and look to get away for a while. It's also a good time for a "staycation" type of week, an opportunity to break up the routine with day trips or long weekends. No matter how you spent the time off (and I use that term loosely), there's nothing quite like that mid- to late-February interruption in the winter routine.
But there are signs winter has started to loosen its grip: the days are getting longer, the sun is warmer, and the Red Sox have started spring training -- opening day is right around the corner on April 4. In no time at all, the snow will melt and the crocuses will emerge (not necessarily in that order).
On behalf of all of us at NESDEC, we hope you enjoyed the break and spent some quality time with people you enjoy being with. We look forward to bidding farewell to winter and welcoming the warmer months ahead.
