A Minute from the Manager
|
"Daddy, may I?”
The small, high-pitched voice of a child got my attention last Saturday at the Farmers Market. She wanted a taste of the honey a marketer was selling and, even though he was handing her a sample, she still took that split second of a submissive spirit to look up and ask her daddy if it would be okay. Her daddy looked at her and said, “Sure, honey.” (He meant a little pun!) But what stole my heart was what happened next...
With her eyes still locked on her daddy, she said to him,“Thank you, Daddy.”
Then, she turned and took a sample of some delicious honey and enjoyed EVERY smooth bit of it. She enjoyed it immensely!!! Her smile. Her wide eyes. Her looking back up to her daddy with a look on her face that seemed to say, “This is more than I imagined,” and then how she looked at the marketer who gave her the honey and said, “This is yummy!”… well, I took away something in that almost-missed moment. I took away the recognition of something so simple, yet, it impacted me so much...
The joy of discovery.
Her face beamed as she discovered the taste of that yummy pure honey, while she showed pure kindness, too, in her returned words of "thank you." She easily could have heard her daddy's permission and just grabbed hold of that spoon of deliciousness, but she showed the maturity, (heard in that tiny little voice) of a person who values respect. It was obvious.
Oh, there's so much at the Farmers Market. There is Mississippi-grown produce, homemade breads and treats, arts and crafts and some of the best coffee, but that's not all. There are also so many almost-missed moments that I want to encourage you to be aware of, because that's what grows community
—experiences that, if you are not in a hurry, will impact your life as you shop, chat, and simply find pleasure in...the joy of discovery.
Growing In Gratitude,
Lisa

Just Throw It in the Bowl
|
We all know that the new season calls for hot chocolate with marshmallows, cups of Joe, and soups for the soul, but it calls for a delectable breakfast as well. With the limited time we typically have with our oh-so-busy lives, breakfast bowls are quick, easy, and convenient.
With the leafy green veggies we have a the Market currently, a KEC (kale, egg, & cheese) scramble breakfast bowl would definitely do the trick! Whether you're preparing a bowl to eat before you dash out the door for work or to eat
at
work for lunch, here is a colorful breakfast bowl idea that is sure to make you say "mmmmm." There's a bonus here:
You can have this meal made and ready-to-eat in under 15 minutes!
Now, get ready for the weekend! Pick up your kale, eggs, garlic, red bell peppers, onion, and milk from the Mississippi Farmers Market this Saturday for a special bowl with the best fresh and local ingredients!

The Perfect Grab-N-Go
Veggie Snacks from the Market
|
In a hurry but still need something healthy for a road trip snack? Try these from the Market: carrots, celery, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Mix them, or eat them separately. Don't forget the ranch or avocado dressing!
Hint: Peanut butter goes well with celery! Simply slice these veggies, bag them, and go!

Some varieties of kale are grown for
ornamental purposes in containers. These are also referred to as
flowering kale. These varieties typically thrive in either full sun or partial shade. When grown in warmer climates, partial shade is preferable. It is recommended that they are allowed to dry out slightly before watering. These varieties include the Chidori, the "Color Up" mixed hybrid, Pigeon Purple, and Glamour Red.
