Welcome to the world of VCCC!

The psychoanalytic clinic and training site serving the Valley and beyond for over 50 years

Dear VCCC Community,

While our mission to provide our severely underserved community with high-quality low-fee psychotherapy has fueled our passion for this field, it has not done the same for our bank account. Long-standing clinics in LA have been closing. Without a significant increase in revenue, we are in danger of becoming a part of that statistic.

The need for affordable therapy is stronger than ever. A need we have met for over 50 years. Please help us keep our doors open by gifting us (and your community) a generous financial contribution. In 2025, we proudly provided over 250 clients with over 7,500 hours of quality and very low-fee psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

While we've implemented changes within VCCC to increase our income, we are in need of angels to support us in securing our longevity. We hear every day how much VCCC has meant to our patients, as well as to our alumni who value the training we are able to provide them.

Please join us in fighting the fight to keep the small but mighty VCCC alive and strong for many years to come.

From the desk of Dr. Callae Walcott-Rounds

I was recently at a VCCC alumni gathering in Franklin Canyon (the best kept secret of LA!), talking with one alum about the state of the world, and all of the horrendous hardships in this year for many—in our country, and in the world. He commented that we must take in the pain of the world, and find a balance within ourselves that allows us to keep our equilibrium.

This is easier said than done. And sometimes, especially in our clinical practice, not desirable at all.

As therapists (who are also in treatment), we undergo this same destabilizing process in the quest for growth. Psychoanalytic wisdom from esteemed clinicians Betty Joseph and Margot

Waddell urge us to sit deeply in our experience in the room, to resist “knowing about” our patients (or ourselves), and engage with “experience in”. In our therapeutic efforts, psychic disequilibrium is needed in the path toward real and substantial growth.

I applaud all of us who are on this continual journey, especially when we can relinquish a prior “knowing” and open to the uniqueness of the present moment.

Thank you for your support of our work!

Warmly,

Dr. Callae Walcott-Rounds

Supervisor Spotlight: Yana Sercarz

My name is Yana Sercarz and I have been supervising at Valley Clinic for several years.

I am in private practice in Los Feliz working with adults, children and adolescents. I recently completed my psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Center of

California. One of the areas I have focused on is working with children with autism and their families. I worked for many years at a non-profit therapeutic school for this population, and that has informed my work with all my patients, as well as my psychoanalytic training. Presently, I participate in the Vista Autism Center clinical group.

I have a deep respect for community mental health and for the high-quality training that VCCC provides. It has been a pleasure and honor to supervise trainees and associates

who are providing such an important service while accruing their hours toward licensure. I wish we lived in a society that afforded more resources to this kind of deep therapeutic work for people who can’t otherwise manage the fees.

Alumni Spotlight: Megan Pfefferkorn!

Megan graduated from VCCC in 2023 and has been a constant beam of light in the VCCC community.

I am an LMFT working in private practice in West LA. I attended UCLA for my undergraduate studies, and Antioch University for my Masters. I am an affiliate member at LAISPS and a member of NCP, where I am in my second year of post-graduate training in their child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy program. I conjointly work as a group therapist supporting teens and young adults at Community West. The people I work with are often struggling with mood, self-esteem, and identity challenges. I specialize in working with parent couples and their children and teens. I frequently work with artists looking to enrich their understanding of themselves and their work. My background is in theater and music, and I bring with me a longstanding appreciation for listening and responding from many levels. I love this work and am honored to be among you as a VCCC alum. Please feel free to reach out for a consultation.

Earth Day 2025

We joined FoLar's Earth Day efforts again this year and helped remove over 16,300 gallons of invasive vegetation across 1.08 acres of the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve! Our efforts (along with 200 other volunteers) were covered by the LA Times this year. Read the article here!

Potlucks and More!

Central to VCCC's culture is making time to be with each other in person at our seasonal potlucks, as well as a dance class kindly offered by our trainee Ashley H.

What we're reading...

We've been going back to the classics recently and thinking about mothers and babies.
