Good Thing Sam Didn’t Just Try to Get a Faster Horse
Sam was a classically trained studio painter. While painting in D.C., he received a letter from his father saying his wife was gravely ill at his home in Connecticut. Being the early 1800s, the letter took several days to reach him. Sam immediately got on his horse and raced home to find that not only had she already died, but she was already buried. Sam immediately dedicated his life to improving long-distance communication, and soon after, Samuel Morse helped invent the telegraph and Morse Code.

Today, we are overrun with communication so much so that it becomes garbled noise. Texts, calls, social media, emails, TV, radio, ads, and tweets all combine to confuse. There has never been more communication while, at the same time, it feels there has never been less. We hear but we don’t comprehend. We allow busy to replace productive and content to replace comprehension.
