Parents Needed for Focus Week and Elective Committee Work
Ms. Kinney is putting together committees to plan for future Focus Weeks and for the electives to offer in the coming years with the 7-period day.

The Focus Week committee will meet on three Wednesday afternoons at 1:00pm, on 11/28, 12/5, and 1/9. We need four parents to participate.

The committee for electives and the 7-day period will meet in December (dates TBD, but probably Wednesday afternoons as well) and we need 2 parents and a couple of students to participate.

If you are interested in participating in these committees, please reply to Samantha Robertson.

News From The ICS Teacher-Librarian
Thank you, ICS PTSA, for making me feel welcome and for providing fabulous volunteers to help get the year started in the library.  Just to let you know about a few things happening in the library this fall:
  • 6-8 graders who are participating in the Battle of the Books are forming teams and will start meeting in early November
  • The student-led Student Study Center is starting to match students to tutors and meeting in the library after school
  • Many students are taking advantage of the opportunity to have Spanish language tutoring Mondays and Tuesdays after school in the library
  • 9th grade student Greek and Roman architecture projects are on display in the library display case

I'm getting new fiction and non-fiction books to add to our collection every week and look forward to sharing them with your students this fall!

PTSA Education Event: Teens & Screens
Are you concerned about how media and technology use is affecting kids and teens?

Today everyone has questions about the healthy use of electronic devices. Parents and guardians wonder how much screen time is too much or at what age they should give their child a cell phone, and often disagree about the rules.

ICS PTSA is sponsoring a presentation by Dr. Ann Steel of  SteelCounseling followed by a Q&A on  November 6th at 7:00pm, just after the PTSA Parent meeting at 6:00 pm at LW Resource Center.

Discussion topics include
  • Expert's guidelines for teens and screens
  • Practical tips for parents to foster a healthy balance
  • Warning signs of gaming or internet addiction
  • The science of stress, multi-tasking and relaxation
  • Best resources for parents and teens
