Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
-
Even the New York Times has noticed Colorado’s strategy of intentionally not building more highways, in hopes of forcing us onto public transportation options that bureaucrats prefer for us. Why do we constantly make national news for embarrassing things?
-
Speaking of bureaucrats forcing us to use their chosen transportation options, the vote for the Front Range Rail tax will be delayed until 2026. But, let’s face it, voting aside, they will force this on us one way or another, if they are still in office.
-
Many counties in Colorado will now have special “boutique gasoline” forced on them. This gasoline, of course, costs consumers more and is more bureaucratic micromanagement of our lives.
-
Colorado Springs City Council will vote on creating a city-run ambulance enterprise in Colorado Springs. What the linked article doesn't mention is the current response times by the CSPD and CSFD. Some reports indicate both are behind acceptable standards. So, will ambulance response times be negatively impacted as well?
-
The Colorado Springs Fire Department reports that taking over ambulance services means they will have access to taxpayer-funded grants that the current ambulance provider, AMR, doesn't have. In other words, even if you do not use the service, you, as a taxpayer, will pay for it. How is this a good deal again?
-
It turns out, that crime, filth, blight, and taxing working people to death to fund vagrants and illegal aliens is motivating people to flee Denver. Who could see this coming?
-
Is permanent, taxpayer-funded housing, with few rules, the answer to vagrancy and homelessness in Colorado? Is housing the root of the vagrancy issue?
-
Should school districts be required to provide teachers for home instruction? One parent is suing Academy School District 20 for their inability to provide home instruction for a special needs child.
-
Xcel Energy customers who have smart meters will now pay a premium for electricity used during peak hours. How long will it be before this big idea visits your home?
-
Who is excited about providing personalized voting services to criminals in jail? Colorado Democrats, and Governor Jared Polis. That’s who.
-
Also in "excitement" news this week, a new law that allows illegal aliens to rapidly obtain a Colorado driver’s license will go into effect. What is also noteworthy is that Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has, in the past, sent voter registration cards to illegal aliens who have applied for driver’s licenses. She has done this not once, but twice.
-
It’s time for the City of Colorado Springs Strategic Plan Meetings. Details appear here and also appear below in the Miscellaneous Meetings portion of the newsletter.
-
Home construction in Colorado Springs is on the uptick after two years of being in decline.
-
It’s time for primary election ballots to arrive in your mailbox. Look for your ballot among the pizza coupons and other junk mail you receive daily.
-
We also found some helpful primary voting information to pass along to you.
-
Would you be in favor of open primary, ranked-choice voting in Colorado? This effort would fundamentally alter forever how primary elections take place in the state.
-
Are you seeing any evidence of your cost of living going down due to inflation reducing?
-
If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.
Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
