SEPTEMBER 2026

Update: HOC Rose takes in 3 new horses

Since the last newsletter of February 2026, we shared about the two losses of our horses Sunny and Silver.

Early summer, we found a new home for Esel the donkey. That opened up 3 spots for new horses needing sanctuary. We took in Hugo, Gator and Olivia.

Hugo is 26 years old quarter gelding. His story is that his owner bought him not knowing he had a broken back. The previous owner kept that information from her. She decided to keep him and cared for him for over 10 years. He recently has become a hard keeper, needing to be fed some grain to keep weight on and is also starting to have eye issues. We recent had a vet look at him and thinks he is having keratosis. We plan to have him be seen by the Animal Eye specialist in October. He is a sweetie. He arrived at end of May.

Gator is 13 years old Appendix Quarter horse gelding. When Gator was a young foal, one of his eye was injured and left him blind. Few years ago, his other eye went blind and was taken out. His herd did not accept him when his 2nd eye became blind. He is rideable and is a sweet horse. He needs to build more confidence when around other horses. He arrived at end of June

Olivia is a fully blind 19-year-old Appaloosa/ Thoroughbred POA.

She recent had an eye removed (Equine recurrent Uveitis) earlier this year and few months ago her other eye was recently diagnosed with band keratopathy. Her owner has been caring for her for over 10 years but due to life changing events she is unable to continue to care for her. She just arrived yesterday and we will let her settle in.

Looking ahead from now to end of year

We recently stocked up on grass hay bales for winter. We will get more before end of year and refill our barn.

We are now currently working on new handmade crafts for future booth events. We are looking for any volunteers who can sew, draw and make arts to help us make some handmade crafts. Want to help us create art, please email us at hocrose@gmail.com

If you have any handmade art you want to donate for our booth, please email us at hocrose@gmail.com or mail it to our mailing address.
