A Safe Haven for Newborns, Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, (501C3) was established in 2000 and is the statewide resource for Fire, EMS, Hospitals, Law Enforcement and DCF as the Florida Safe Haven Program and in support of the Florida Surrendered Infant Law (FS 383.50). We are especially grateful with our partnership with the Florida Fire Chief’s Association (FFCA) and recognize the significance and success of this cooperation. Over 300 Newborn Infants have been saved thereby securing a meaningful life for both the newborn infant and the mother.
A Safe Haven for Newborns provides

- Assisted over 5000 women in their time of need and 2000 annual helpline calls
- Assisted 72 mothers who chose direct adoption with a private licensed adoption agency of their choice
- Assisted 5 mothers regain parental rights
- Provided assistance to mothers in other states and other countries

As we celebrate 20 years of saving newborn infant’s lives, we are providing to all statewide Fire, EMS, and Hospitals resource materials that could be useful during a surrendered infant occurrence at your facility.
Resource Materials
The Medical Questionnaire
a useful resource to obtain vital health information that will assist with the care of the newborn infant and will be most helpful for the adoptive parents. By law, it is not required for the mother to answer any questions.
The Surrendered Infant Help Card
should be provided to the mother as a resource she may use to seek additional help and counseling.
The Web Based Training
addresses the Florida Safe Haven Statues, as well as the roles and responsibilities of Hospital & Fire/EMS personnel when presented with a surrendered newborn.
We encourage all Hospitals, Fire/EMS personnel to contact us for the training, Safe Haven signage, public awareness materials or for any questions.

God gave all of us special talents and so many minutes, hours, days to live a meaning, purposeful life. So, find your purpose in life. It is not too late.
Leave a footprint, live a life of meaning, “Make a Difference” whether large or small, behind the scenes, only God and those you helped need to know.
Remember, the gift of giving is a sense of gratitude.
A Safe Haven for Newborns enriches my soul every single day. I could never express the emotional gifts I receive being a part of this life-saving and life changing mission. So many wonderful life changing stories, the thousands of moms we helped, hundreds of babies that now have a future and the hopes and dreams of a forever family fulfilled.
What is more important and meaningful in life than saving a life, especially of a precious, innocent child, and then see the child grow; intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually with the love and guidance of their forever parents.
To quote Mark Twain, “The most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why."
I found out why, Nick

Thank You to the students who have chosen to fulfill their community service hours by selecting a project from the Safe Haven for Newborns Community Service App. With their participation they are helping us to spread community awareness about the Safe Haven for Newborns program.
Here are just a few of the many posters and social media postings they have created. Again, our heartfelt Thank You!

Pregnant and Soon to be Homeless
A Mother's Story
|
|
I was seven months pregnant, no medical care, no insurance, undocumented, no support, and soon to be homeless. I had very dark thoughts as I was all alone and desperate. The father of the baby was nowhere to be found. I saw Safe Haven for Newborns sign with a helpline number at a fire station and called. They were so very kind, listened to my situation and immediately had a plan for me. I was connected to community resources the next day, and an appointment for medial care, they arranged and paid for a place for me to stay for the next two and a half months and paid for my cell phone.
One night as I was in the beginning stages of labor, I called them to take me to the hospital. They were there for me all along the way. I gave birth to a healthy girl.
Not being able to give my baby the care, guidance, and a future, I chose the Safe Haven for Newborns program, where my baby was placed for adoption with a private licensed adoption agency. I was very sad but it was the only way to give my baby a life I could not provide. They connected me to a very compassionate counselor. I eventually got my life back on track.
I am not sure what the outcome would be been for me and my baby if it was not for the caring and compassionate staff of A Safe Haven for Newborns. I call the founder every few months just to say hello.
May God continue to bless this wonderful organization. I humbly ask you to please consider supporting this life saving program. -- G.
