NEWS & UPDATES
Camp Kawartha Celebrates a Successful 96th Year!
On Tuesday, December 19 th, Camp Kawartha welcomed dignitaries and special guests to their Annual General Meeting held at the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre. Emcee, and Board President, Jason Huffman, welcomed over 50 guests to the annual event and provided an overview of the many accomplishments over the past fiscal year.

The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Member of Parliament for Peterborough—Kawartha and Minister of Status of Women was present, bringing congratulations from the Federal Government and acknowledging the value of Camp Kawartha to the region.

Brad Collyer from McColl Turner LLP reported on the financial health of the organization over the last fiscal year. Collyer announced that once again there was a strong performance in all areas of programming, reaching more participants than ever.

In her address, keynote speaker, Brianna Salmon of Peterborough Green Up, summarized the many environmentally focused activities taking place in the City and County, and the leadership role being taken by Camp Kawartha, and it’s Executive Director, Jacob Rodenburg.

Announced at the meeting was the development of Camp Kawartha’s Branching Out Capital Campaign. Still in the planning stages, the Campaign will be launched in the late spring of 2018. The goal is to invest in upgrading the infrastructure of the main camp; transforming the organization into a provincially significant environmental education leadership centre.
Pathway to Stewardship & Kinship
Special Contribution

Pathway to Stewardship & Kinship
In the spring of 2016, after considerable research and public consultation, the Pathway to Stewardship document was released. It proposes a stepwise series of experiences for children and youth, matched to their growing interests and abilities, to specifically nurture a sense of caring, connection and responsibility for each other and the world they share. With the financial support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation we now have an amazing opportunity accelerate the whole process. We need to find schools, preschools or other community hubs and their families who would like to try out the landmarks in the Pathway document, let us know what support they need, and share their feedback and suggestions. We also need to hear from individuals and community groups to confirm what role they can play in supporting this pilot phase. If you are interested, or want more information please contact me, Cathy Dueck at cathydueck7@gmail.com I would love to hear from you.
Beachfront Now Accessible!
With funding assistance from the Rick Hansen and J.P. Bickell Foundations we were able to construct an accessible pathway allowing those with physical challenges to easily and safely make their way to the waterfront.

Due to the steepness of the grade down to the waterfront and the topography, accessing waterfront activities was very challenging. However, the new pathway is a gradual packed incline that weaves its way to the waterfront and amphitheatre which connects kids to the many wonderful camp activities including our campfire circle, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and swimming .

Executive Director, Jacob Rodenburg noted at the recent opening of the pathway that Canada has over 2 million lakes and rivers, and people of all abilities should have opportunity to participate in those quintessentially Canadian pastimes of canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Jacob feels that with care, thoughtful planning and investment, outdoor adventures can be made accessible to every child.
