Here are some items that voters should expect to see on the November 2025 ballot that are directly related to Lathrup Village:
1) Three (3) seats on the Lathrup Village City Council
The Oakland County Bureau of Elections has stated that the following candidates met the statutory application requirements to be listed on the November 2025 ballot:
- Jalen Jennings
- Bruce Kantor
- John Sousanis
Write-In Candidates:
2) Charter Amendment Proposal
Shall the City of Lathrup Village Charter be amended to eliminate conflicts with the state constitution and election laws.
This proposed Charter amendment would:
- Modify the commencement date of an elected official’s term until after certification of the election results;
- Extend the time for elected officials to take the oath of office to allow for certification of the election results;
- Delay the organizational meeting of the City Council until after certification of the election results.
Should this proposal be adopted?
[YES] [NO]
3) Headlee Override Millage Proposal
Shall a “Headlee Override” be adopted so that the current limitation on the amount of City taxes that may be levied against all taxable property in the City of Lathrup Village, Oakland County, Michigan, be increased as follows:
- Restoring to 20 mills from approximately 17.3001 mills, per $1,000 of taxable value (to $20 from approximately $17.3001) for general operating expenses for a period of ten (10) years, and
- Restoring to 3 mills from approximately 2.5948 mills, per $1,000 of taxable value (to $3 from approximately $2.5948) for sanitation/rubbish for a period of ten (10) years.
If approved and levied in its entirety, this millage would raise an estimated maximum amount of $611,909 for the City in 2026 by allowing the City to levy the maximum mills previously approved by the voters and authorized by the City Charter and State law which have been reduced as required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963.
[YES] [NO]
| | How much will I pay if a Headlee Override ballot proposal is successful? - Clarification - | |
If the Headlee Override ballot proposal is adopted by the voters, the current operational millage rate will be restored from 17.3001 mils to 20 mils, and the refuse millage rate (for trash and recycling) will be restored from 2.5948 to 3 mils. This will result in a total millage restoration of 3.1051 mils.
Note that the 2025 tax season, which ended on September 2, 2025, included a 2-mill special assessment enacted by the City Council. This special assessment was instituted to help the City overcome the budget deficit for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. City Council assessed these 2 mils to prevent any cuts in services before the voters decide on a Headlee Override on November 4, 2025. This 2-mill special assessment expires this fiscal year.
This means that, if approved, the Headlee Override would only add 1.1051 mils to the millage rate you paid in summer 2025. To calculate how much the Headlee Override would cost you, simply multiply the taxable value (not the assessed or equalized value) on your annual 2025 property tax assessment that you received in March by .0011051.
For example, the average taxable value in Lathrup Village is currently $90,046. That means the average resident would see an additional $95 in taxes on their tax statement.
| You can also review the chart below to see your cost based on your current taxable value. | | Lathrup Village City Hall, 27400 Southfield Road, has launched two new public EV charging stations. Through a collaborative effort with General Motors and Charge EV (CEV), the City incurred no costs for the installation of these new chargers, and the City will receive 10% of the net operating profit generated from the EV chargers. The Level II charging stations will be maintained by CEV at no expense to the City via the General Motors Community Charging Program, demonstrating a fruitful public-private partnership that propels the City toward its strategic objective of integrating sustainable infrastructure. | |

Curbside leaf vacuuming is anticipated to begin the week of October 13 (pending weather) and will end the first week of December.
Guidelines
To ensure that leaves from your property are collected, please follow these guidelines:
- Place leaf piles as close to the edge of the street as possible. Think of higher piles, not wider piles. It's important to allow for two-way vehicular traffic at all times.
- Do NOT place leaf piles in the drainage ditch. Leaf removal crews will not rake out ditches.
- Homeowners with addresses on Santa Barbara and Bloomfield should place leaf piles along adjacent side streets.
- Do NOT include trash, animal feces, twigs, branches, grass clippings, flowers, and other yard waste with leaves. They often cause mechanical malfunctions. If the leaf removal crew discovers these items in a leaf pile, they will leave them and move on to the next address.
- Help ensure crew safety and timely removal by placing leaf piles several feet from garbage cans and other refuse.
- Expect some residue - "leaf dust". It is an inevitable by-product of the leaf collection method and equipment.
- Do NOT park vehicles on or near leaf piles.
-
Please be patient. The leaf collection schedule is weather-dependent. it takes longer to collect wet leaves. Several windy days in a row often result in larger leaf piles, which can also take longer to collect.
- If you prefer, you may still use yard waste bags for leaves during the season.
- If you employ a landscape company, please advise them of these guidelines
