Data Proc and Acq SIG: Seismic Signals of the 19 November 2024 SpaceX Starship Flight 6 Test in Boca Chica Texas

Day: Tue-10-Nov-2026 this is a virtual event

Summary: Commercial space launches generate powerful acoustic and seismic signals that offer new opportunities for studying air-ground coupling, source processes, and near-surface Earth structure. In this seminar, we present observations from a 3-component seismic node array deployed near Boca Chica, Texas, during the SpaceX Starship Flight 6 test on 19 November 2024. The launch produced a remarkably complex wavefield recorded for more than 600 seconds. Analysis of high-quality recordings from stations...

Day: Wed-11-Nov-2026 this is a hybrid event

Location: GSH Geoscience Center 1790 W. Sam Houston Parkway N. Houston, TX  77043

Summary: This talk approaches subsurface exploration from an interpreter's perspective, in settings where well data isn't available to lean on. Collaboration between QI and interpretation is often talked about in terms of the petrophysical analysis a QI colleague can provide. Still, there's real value in the interpreter's perspective too...

GeoConnectLive: Managing Your Life as a Modern Professional

WHAT'S NEW AT GSH

GSH Endowment Fund

Maximize your impact this season by supporting the GSH Endowment with year-end funds or capital gains from October portfolio rebalancing. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Geophysical Society of Houston offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while potentially qualifying for a charitable tax deduction this calendar year and honoring distinguished members Lee Lawyer, Bill Gafford, and Lisa Buckner. We are rapidly gaining momentum, with $9,500 raised to date and just $5,500 more needed to unlock the full $15,000 matching commitment from our benefactors. Every dollar you contribute will be matched dollar-for-dollar, helping turn our shared goal into a $30,000 investment in local STEM outreach, student scholarships, and our geoscience education center.

Progress to Matching Goal

Total Match Available: $15,000

Raised to Date: $9,500 !

Remaining to Unlock Match: $5,500

The GSH actively supports a variety of local technical events, many of which feature presentations that are recorded and archived with the authors’ permission. As a benefit of membership, current GSH members can access these recordings through the GSH Technical Event Video Archive, providing members an opportunity to revisit informative talks and continue learning beyond the events themselves.
