November 2021
Congratulations, Todrick!
YVCHR's Volunteer of the Month
Todrick discovered YVCHR while searching for ways to interact with his community since he attends an online school. Though he hasn't been a YVCHR volunteer for long, his favorite project has been the recent Trick-or-Treat Trails & Pumpkin Carving event. Seeing the children in their costumes and the smiles on their faces made it extra special. Todrick loves volunteering because he always leaves projects feeling like he made a difference. His advice to new youth volunteers is to "...go into each project with a good attitude," because it "...will take you far and make each volunteer opportunity more fun." That's great advice!

After high school, Todrick plans to attend college to study biology. In the meantime, he enjoys creating art, running, watching track, and hanging out with his family.
Fun Facts: He can raise one eyebrow like The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson.
School Club Spotlight
Tabb High School
Tabb High School recently launched a YVC club and has been incredibly productive in the short time that school has been back in session! Their group is sponsored by Kristin McAllister and led by students Vishayla and Addison. The group meets weekly and devotes club time to specific service-learning lessons, as well as community mapping, brainstorming and project planning. In response to the influx of refugees that have been resettled in the Hampton Roads community, Tabb’s YVC club created a “welcome” banner to hang in the home of an Afghan family as a gesture of kindness to those who have been displaced. They are currently working on organizing advocacy and volunteer efforts around mental health issues.
Topgolf Tournament Success!
On behalf of everyone at Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads, thank you to everyone who came out for our inaugural Topgolf Tournament! Not only was it great to gather with friends and family after a two-year hiatus from big events, but we also effectively launched our expansion to South Hampton Roads. By establishing a satellite operation in Virginia Beach, we will reach more youth and make a greater collective impact.

We certainly could not fulfill our mission if not for the generous support of a caring community. And we will be back at Topgolf next year, so stay tuned for details!

Community Knights Bingo
High school students and adults who would like to help local schools and nonprofit organizations (like YVCHR!), please consider signing up to volunteer at Community Knights Bingo. Proceeds from bingo are donated back into the Hampton Roads community!

NOTE: Community Knights will sign volunteer logs for those who need evidence of service hours.
This is not a YVCHR-facilitated activity, so a team leader from YVCHR will not be on-site.
