From Your Administrative Team
Greetings Connect K8 Families,

We hope you enjoyed a restful weekend, and are looking forward to the mid-week break ahead!

We want to thank everyone who attended and participated in our Fall Festival last week, especially our Core 3 Planning Committee! Thank you for a warm, wonderful evening of gathering in our community!

Part of our vision for the Fall Festival was to honor the variety of ways that families gather in the autumn season, and we are so grateful to learn a little more about the beautiful celebration of Diwali from one of our Connect families! Please enjoy this read aloud and this video from the Vhanakaware family, who shared how their family celebrates this holiday! Thank you Palash, Mayura and family for sharing your celebration with us in this way!

To continue learning more about Diwali, you can check out this article from NatGeo Kids!

COVID-19 Pediatric Vaccine and Booster Clinics with WUSD
Last week, we sent a separate blog post regarding WUSD's organization of COVID-19 Pediatric vaccine/booster clinics for any families who are interested. We are grateful for WUSD's leadership and partnership in offering this clinics!

Please see the below information from WUSD Superintendent, Blake Silvers:
This week, federal government agencies issued an emergency authorization for children ages 5-11 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. For the convenience of our families, we have planned several pediatric vaccination clinics with Fulgent and the Wiseburn Education Foundation. Booster doses of the Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer vaccines will also be available for those ages 12+ at each clinic.

Registration is now open, so please SIGN UP HERE for a slot for your children or your booster dose if interested. Walk-ins are welcome, but we advise registering in advance to ensure you are able to receive a dose.
To deliver vaccinations as quickly as possible, we’re pleased to announce that Fulgent has also added another vaccination clinic option for this Friday. Recipients of the vaccine for this option will receive their first dose on Friday, November 5, then return for their second dose on November 30.

The updated dates for the clinics, including the added clinic, are as follows:

Vaccine clinic option 1
Dose 1 – Tuesday, November 9 from 12 - 6:30 p.m. at Dana Middle School
Dose 2 – Tuesday, November 30 from 12 - 6:30 p.m. at Dana Middle School

Vaccine clinic option 2
Dose 1 – Thursday, November 18 from 12 - 6:30 p.m. at Dana Middle School
Dose 2 – Thursday, December 9 from 12 - 6:30 p.m. at Dana Middle School

NEW: Vaccine clinic option 3
Dose 1 – Friday, November 5 from 3 - 7 p.m. at Dana Middle School
Dose 2 – Tuesday, November 30 from 12 - 6:30 p.m. at Dana Middle School
Drop Off Procedures
*Please read*
We continue to see unsafe choices being made in our morning drop off routines. Please review the below information, and use the drop off route correctly to ensure everyone's safety. Please also only cross the street using designated cross walks.

If you plan to exit your vehicle at all during drop off, even for a quick hug goodbye, please plan to park your car in the parking lot and walk your child to campus. The drop off line is for students exiting cars only. We have seen some unsafe choices being made to avoid or pass cars that are stopped/parked in the drop off line. Please remain in your car if you choose the drop off line and allow your child to exit independently. Please also be mindful as a driver and pedestrian in our parking lot. We share space with WUSD's preschool program, so there are many little bodies entering and exiting the lot in the am. Thank you for following these procedures to support the safety and efficiency of our morning routine!

Katherine Danco
Hello, my name is Katherine and I am so excited to be learning and teaching Big History to my 7th grade daughter. This has been a very exciting new subject for us. The Big History course has a through line with a lot of interesting videos, articles and opportunities for writing growth. It sparked our curiosity and we are captivated!
My email address is katherinedanco@mac.com

It is not too late to be a Champion!
Ask yourself these questions:
1.    Which piece of curriculum do I use most?
2.    Which piece of curriculum does my child love?
3.    Am I willing to share my knowledge (BIG or small) with others?

Our goal with this program is to have parents collaborate with each other to make the most of the DV Connect Supplemental Curriculum resources. There is great value in what you do for your kid's learning every day and sharing those tips and tricks will help others to find success!

Send Theresa an email if you’d like to talk about how you can contribute to our community in this way.

Have a great week!
