Call the right play - plan ahead for Super Bowl weekend
For the first time in 50 years, Missouri’s Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl!

If you’re planning on having a party or going to one, the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety wants you to have a plan for a sober ride home for you or your guests.

If you’re going to a party, designate a sober driver or call a cab, friend or family member to come and get you. 

If you’re hosting a party, don’t allow your guests to drive if they’ve had too much liquid celebration. Take their keys, help them make safe travel arrangements or bring out an extra blanket for the couch. Consider serving non-alcoholic beverages and stop serving alcohol after halftime. The safety of your guests is your responsibility.

Missouri traffic fatalities drop
Preliminary reporting for 2019 indicates Missouri traffic fatalities have dropped for the third year in a row. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 876 lives were lost in Missouri traffic crashes in 2019, down from 921 in 2018, a 5% reduction.  Read more.
State DOTs renew focus on reducing fatalities
State department of transportation executives highlighted a number of different strategies and tactics aimed at reducing traffic fatalities for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists during a recent roundtable discussion. Read more in the AASHTO Journal.
Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight
On Jan. 28, the Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight held its first meeting for 2020. MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna presented MoDOT’s Annual Report to the committee. The report consists of a 2019 Year in Review, Citizen's Guide to Transportation Funding in Missouri, Financial Snapshot and Results document.  
MoDOT employee honored for service
Sharon Monroe, senior executive assistant to MoDOT's director, was recently recognized for her 45-years and counting with MoDOT. The recognition was featured in the Jefferson City News Tribune.
This day in transportation history
January 30, 1918 - The U.S. Bureau of Public Roads issued a certificate of completion for the first project completed under the Federal-Aid Road Act of 1916. The project took place in Contra Costa County, California.
