It's Fire Prevention Week
October is a great time to focus on safety, and this week we recognize Fire Prevention Week! 🔥 It's an important annual reminder to review our home escape routes, test smoke detectors, and talk as a family about fire prevention. We want to extend a huge thank you to our local fire departments—the firefighters do vital work year-round to keep our community safe, and we truly appreciate their active partnership with our schools through educational programs, station tours, and safety talks. Their dedication helps ensure our students and families are prepared for emergencies!
Are you following your local fire department on Facebook?
Here are just a few who have so kindly given their time and heart to our students this week. Check out some of their posts to see our students in action!

School Attendance Matters. If you do miss, send in an excuse!
If your child is going to be absent from school, it is vital to send in a parent note or a formal excuse from the doctor's office. This simple step ensures their absence is officially excused, preventing them from being marked as truant. An excused absence protects your student's attendance record and academic standing, and it helps our school comply with state regulations.
-
Parents may submit up to 3 parent-written excuses per semester to be considered excused absences. Handwrite a note to send with your child, or email the teacher.
-
A doctor's note is considered as an excused absence, but must be submitted within seven (7) days following the visit to the doctor.
A student with 5 UNEXCUSED absences is considered truant and is placed on the school's Truancy list. This means the student did not submit a parent note or a doctor's note for the absences. Once a student is on the Truancy list, they cannot be removed for the semester unless they submit their excuses.

Dyslexia Awareness: Knowing the Signs and Offering Support
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. It’s a great time to learn more about this common learning difference that affects reading, spelling, and writing. Dyslexia isn't about intelligence; it simply means a person's brain processes language differently. In fact, many people with dyslexia have strong skills in areas like problem-solving, creativity, and spatial reasoning. Let's use this month to recognize and celebrate the unique strengths of those in our family and community who are dyslexic, and to champion the accommodations and understanding that help them succeed!
