It’s the third quarter, don’t give up now!
I had a meltdown about one of my clients losing his grandfather to Covid yesterday. I got enraged about people not wearing masks, screamed and yelled to some good listeners and got over it. We are all tired of all the restrictions of Covid. Being locked down again as we are here in California is a pain! A responsible meltdown with venting is part of getting back on track.
But this is no time to give up and give in to the disease and blow the restrictions and safety measures because we are mentally exhausted. Especially when the end is in site. Vaccines are here!
Thanks to our graduates who have worked on 2 of the 3 Vaccines!
Work from home has turned into work from home way too much. We hear too many stories about 7 or 10 hours of Zoom calls in a day! When are you supposed to get your job done?
Maybe you should call a time out to see what you need to do to avoid mentally giving up on staying safe when we can finally see the goal line.
Here are a few reminders and suggestions to get through the next couple of months:
”Time Out Ref, I gotta think!”
*What bad habits have I gotten into about work that I need to stop? Back To Back To Back calls. Cancel one or two. Let people know you aren’t going to be on every call. I think we actually ran companies quite successfully without CONSTANT Zoom calls prior to the pandemic! REMEMBER?
*Does your day now drift into your evening that used to be for you? Stop it! Declare 5:00 PM is it.
*Get outside! Days are short now in the Northern Hemisphere. But you need to be outside and get sun or at lease fresh air even its cold air. Seasonal Effective Disorder is a real thing too. If you are already exhausted your body will be more susceptible to the depression associated with lack of sun in the winter. REMEMBER: “Even on Death row you get an hour a day out in the yard!”
*If you are working too much decide which meeting is most mind numbing, tell people you have a virtual doctors appointment and go for a walk!
On the diversion side:
Here is the deep dive on Netflix shows you may have missed:
-“Rectify” A man is released after being on death row for 20 years.
A brilliant look into the psychological effects of 20 years of isolation and the long arc of what it takes to get out. Peabody Award winner. 2 thumbs up form Susan and John
-“Schitt’s Creek” After giving up on this one after one episode our daughter-in-law’s love for the show brought us back and we fell in love with the quirky characters and the show’s message of tolerance. You will see why the show has such a cult following. Funny and heart warming with a little squirm appeal.
-“Broadchurch” David Tennet (Dr. Who) and academy Award winner Olivia Colman star in this British crime drama. It won tons of BAFTA awards (British Emmys/Oscars) Engrossing story, Great Acting.
For all of these put down the damn phone and let great story telling take you away for the stresses of today.
Food. Indulge in great food.
-Fresh pineapples from the Pineapple Guy www.thepineappleguy.com in Hawaii. Flown in fresh nothing better. Packed with Bromelain natural inflammation reducer. Try grilling slices for desert.
-Wild Alaskan Salmon: Co-op of fishermen in Alaska offering amazing seafood for less than what you will pay in the stores. Coupon available on request.
Manage your Fatigue with the things you do have control over. Say “No” to the work madness so you can get your job done.
Current estimate is the rapid roll out of the vaccine will save 25,000 lives every one wearing masks will save 52,000 lives in the same time period. There's a lot of Grandpas in that number.
As always we invite your comments.
