Heritage Hills (7-2) vs. Jasper (5-4)
HISTORY OF THE MATCHUP
This will be the 27th meeting between Heritage Hills and Jasper. The Patriots lead the overall series 15-11.
Jasper and Heritage Hills played during the 1978 and 1979 regular seasons with the Wildcats winning both matchups. The 1979 loss was especially tough for the Patriots; a win would have given them their first undefeated season and a playoff berth. After that season, Jasper was replaced on Heritage Hills' schedule by North Knox, who joined the Pocket Athletic Conference (PAC) for a brief period. The Patriots went 10-0 the following year, but without Jasper on the schedule, they played too many 1A schools and failed to earn enough points to qualify for the playoffs.
The Patriots and Wildcats did not meet again until Jasper dropped to 3A from 1993 to 1996, during which they split four sectional matchups. After Jasper moved back up to 4A, the teams didn't face each other until their regular-season series resumed in 2001. The Patriots won that 2001 game, knocking off a Wildcats team that would eventually become the 4A state champions. Following that victory, Heritage Hills won the next seven meetings to take a 9-4 series lead. However, starting with an 18-0 shutout in 2008, Jasper won six of the next seven games to tie the series at 10-10. Since then, the Patriots have controlled the rivalry, winning five of the last six meetings.
The Matchup by Numbers
Jasper is averaging 32.3 points per game (ppg) while giving up 25.7 ppg. The Patriots are averaging 45.9 ppg and allowing just 11.9 ppg.
