Tonight's, Hunter’s Moon, traditionally associated with hunting season, actually inspired early forms of insurance in rural communities!

In early agricultural societies, the Hunter’s Moon signaled a time for hunters to stock up on food for the winter, which also meant a higher risk of accidents and injuries. Villagers would pool resources to create communal funds, which would help cover the costs of injuries or lost livestock during these crucial hunts.

This early "mutual insurance" was a way to share risks and support one another during dangerous times, long before modern insurance companies existed!

It’s a reminder of how communities have been finding ways to protect against risks for centuries, even under the light of the Hunter’s Moon.
