LENTEN REFLECTION

Dear St. Paul's Family,

For 10 years, I've had the privilege of being a part of this community. Many of you know me as the person behind the screen, the one capturing moments, crafting messages and trying to keep us all connected. But behind that screen, there's a story woven with threads of both deep sorrow and profound joys, a story in which St. Paul's has been a constant, comforting presence.

For me, Lent offers an opportunity for personal reflection, a chance to pause, look back and appreciate the journey. In these past 10 years, life has presented me with challenges that have tested my strength and shaken my foundation. I've walked through the valley of grief, losing both my biological father and my first husband to cancer, and then my adoptive dad to diabetes — all in rapid succession. Each loss was a profound blow, a moment where the world seemed to dim.

In those darkest times, St. Paul's was a beacon. You, the parishioners, the staff, the clergy — you held me. You offered quiet words, gentle smiles and unwavering support. You showed me what it truly means to be a community, a family. You reminded me that even in the midst of sorrow, there is light.

Next, came the joys. My children returned to Indianapolis (Jolie, from college in New Orleans and Caleb, after starting his family while living on the West Coast). The laughter of grandchildren returned to my home, and I rediscovered love, marrying a special friend from my youth. These are the moments that remind me of life's resilience and its capacity for renewal. And once again, St. Paul's has celebrated with me, shared in my happiness and amplified the joy.

As I reflect during this Lenten season, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude for the strength you’ve given me, for the love you’ve shown me and for the unwavering presence you’ve been in my life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to witness the beauty of this community from behind my lens, and for the privilege of sharing your stories.

This Lent, let us all take a moment to look beyond the surface, to recognize the stories that surround us and to appreciate the connections that bind us together. Let us be grateful for the moments of joy, and let us remember that even in times of sorrow, we are not alone.

Thank you, St. Paul's. You're a cherished part of my chosen family.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Meegan Kriner, Director of Communications

RECTOR TRANSITION

SUNDAY, MARCH 16 AT ST. PAUL'S INDY

ADULT FAITH FORUM

Choir on Pilgrimage

10:15-11 a.m., Parish Hall

Think of how a memory/particular event in your life can activate the senses — how it looked, felt, sounded, smelled and, perhaps, tasted. Visiting a place of pilgrimage is experiencing those senses in a concentrated way, encapsulating the way it will be remembered. Ely Cathedral was the destination for St. Paul's Choir members. The way the choir's senses were activated in this space will resonate in and inspire them for years to come. Join for a reflection on the choir's pilgrimage to Ely Cathedral, presented by Callie Carpenter, Katharine Hughley and Freya Keith, introduced by Director of Music, Brad Hughley.

UPSTAIRS ADULT FORMATION

St. Paul's 101

10:15-11 a.m., CRR (second floor, Parish Ctr. bldg.)

Join the Rev. Jeff Bower as he provides a very brief overview of St. Paul's history, an overview of St. Paul's relationship with the Diocese of Indianapolis, and touches on our place in the wider Episcopal Church. Learn a little about our identity and our faith tradition.

CONCERT :: JEAN-BAPTISTE ROBIN

4 p.m., Sanctuary

Join us for a free concert and reception, featuring French organist Jean-Baptiste Robin on the St. Paul’s Casavant Organ. Jean-Baptiste Robin is regarded as one of the most prominent French concert organists and composers of today. With his appointment in 2010 as Organist of the Royal Chapel at the Palace of Versailles, he was given a place in a long line of heralded French organists, such as Couperin, Marchand and Balbastre. He also serves as Professor of Organ and Composition at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Versailles. This event is co-sponsored by the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

MOSAIC BOOK CLUB

Thursday, April 3, 6:30-8 p.m., Fire by the Monon Restaurant

Join the Mosaic Book Club in exploring issues of racism as the group reads award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi’s book, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. Kendi argues that “racist ideas were created to justify and rationalize deeply entrenched racist policies and the nation’s racial inequalities.” For families with teens in the household, this is a great opportunity to incorporate the young adult version of Stamped, written in conjunction with Jason Reynolds, in a family book study. Please click here to email Susie Holtz with your RSVP or to ask questions, or text her at 317.370.4262.

Looking ahead to May: the group will read Yellowface, by R. F. Kuang.

CREATING COMMUNITY

WEAR YOUR NAMETAG – A SIMPLE ACT OF WELCOME

Please be especially mindful about wearing nametags on Sundays. Nametags are a small, but meaningful, way to foster connection and hospitality — not only for clergy and staff but also for newcomers and longtime members alike. Whether you’ve been here for years or are just getting to know St. Paul’s, wearing your nametag helps make our community more welcoming to all. If you need a new nametag, please either create a temporary nametag or drop your name into the box in Burrows Commons to request a reusable nametag — we’ll be happy to make one for you! Please click here to email Laurie Pierce with questions.
