Calhoun County Senior Millage Advisory Committee Honors 2024 Joanne Konkle Achievement Award Winners

The Calhoun County Senior Millage Advisory Committee (SMAC) is proud to announce the 2024 Joanne Konkle Senior Services Achievement Award recipients. This year, two remarkable individuals, Jan Tolf and Carol Maynard, are honored for their dedication to improving the lives of older adults in Calhoun County.

Professional Achievement Award: Jan Tolf

Jan Tolf, the former Project Director and CEO of NorthPointe Woods, is recognized for her decades-long leadership and commitment to senior services in Battle Creek. Prior to her role at NorthPointe Woods, she developed the Department of Senior Services at Battle Creek Health Systems, now known as Senior Health Partners. Under her leadership, an affordable senior residence facility was established, which includes both Assisted Living and Independent Living options.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jan has actively supported the United Way of Greater Battle Creek, the Area Agency on Aging Policy Board, and the Burnham Brook Center. In 2000, she was named an Athena Award honoree, recognizing her role as a trailblazer and advocate for women in the workplace.

Jan’s exemplary service to the senior community in Calhoun County has earned her the 2024 Joanne Konkle Senior Services Professional Achievement Award.

Volunteer Achievement Award: Carol Maynard

Carol Maynard, a dedicated leader at the Forks Senior Center, has been involved with the center since its inception in 2005 and has served as Board President for six years. Her leadership has been vital to the center’s success, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, when she made weekly welfare calls to center members and delivered essential supplies to those in need.

Carol’s contributions extend beyond the boardroom—she leads fitness classes, coordinates outreach efforts, and ensures members feel supported and cared for through personal check-ins, cards, and visits. Her tireless efforts to improve the lives of older adults have earned her the 2024 Joanne Konkle Senior Services Volunteer Achievement Award.

The Joanne Konkle Senior Services Achievement Award was established in 2017 in memory of Joanne Konkle (1934-2018), a lifelong advocate for seniors who dedicated her career to enhancing senior care services in Calhoun County. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional compassion, commitment, and leadership in serving older adults.
