Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District Holds First Staff Health and Wellness Fair
On January 10th, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District held its first Health and Wellness fair. The event focused on giving back to the hard working and dedicated school staff who are doing so much for their students and the community on a daily basis.
They participated in games, raffles, yoga, meditation, guided runs, coloring, and so much more. Local vendors came out to meet with the staff, and lunch was provided by Chartwells, and coffee from The Boundless Bean.
The school district would like to thank all the organizations that donated and vendors that spent time on this event.

American Legion Post 405
Raynham's own American Legion post was chartered on January 18, 1947 by Commander Patrick Barden.
Since its founding, the members have remained heavily involved in the Raynham community by maintaining the gravestones of local veterans, providing support to needy families during the holidays, and organizing memorials and events.
Post 405 considers their founding of Raynham's little league program in 1957 one of their greatest accomplishments. They raised money to purchase uniforms and equipment for all the children and kicked off the season with a large parade in the spring of 1958.
In 1968, the organization honored the first Raynham resident killed in action: Chester A. Bearse whose plane was shot down over Europe in WWII, by naming their newly constructed post after him (pictured in the top right).
Today, Post 405 is a local meeting place for its members, but also open to the public. They offer a place to eat and enjoy time with friends 7 days a week, and are available for your function needs. Visit Post 405 homepage for more info.

MASS Audubon ~ Birds & Climate Change
Sat, Jan 27
11:00a-12:00p
Raynham Public Library
Join Raynham Public Library for a timely discussion on birds and climate change with presenter Steve French, an Adult Field Teacher at Massachusetts Audubon. In measuring the effects of climate change, birds play an essential role in the environment and are our "canaries in a coal mine." Mass Audubon's research shows that 30% of our breeding birds are declining and must be protected. Climate change will further increase the stresses on these species and other organisms in both predicted and unforeseen ways. During this discussion, Steve will highlight efforts in protecting birds and celebrate progress as a steward of the resilient bird world. He's very familiar with birds and regional history, and he's been an active South Shore community member supporting conservation efforts. Use this exciting and educational event as an opportunity to learn more!

Climate Can Do: Climate Resolutions
The new year is a time for fresh starts and new goals. Head into 2024 with climate resolutions.
Help your personal and our collective environment by disposing of unwanted items properly. To avoid sending to the landfill; schedule a home textile pickup with CMRK. This company collects clothing, shoes, and household items. For more information, visit www.cmrkne.com.
If you have unwanted, but still useable items, donate them to organizations or those in need. For example:
-
My Brother’s Keeper: This organization accepts furniture donations and gives the items to underprivileged families.
-
AMVETS: Schedule a pickup with AMVETS and help provide resources to veterans.
- Books: Donate to your local library
- Sports equipment: The Bench, located at 47 Broad St, Bridgewater, MA, is a sporting goods store that sells used sports equipment.
Mass.gov also offers resources for disposal and donations that you can use. Here are some options to get you started:
-
Beyond the Bin: This is a research tool that helps you find nearby drop off locations based on the type of material you’d like to recycle. This includes everything from electronics to clothing to toys!
-
Cradles to Crayons: If you have goods suitable for children from ages newborn through 12, find a Cradles to Crayons drop-off location near you, and they will make care packages with the donations for local children in need.
There are many ways to make a positive impact on both your community and the environment. Use these ideas to spark some of your own, and let’s make a resolution to bring sustainability into the new year!
This Climate Can-Do Article was written by Alexa Pennington, Southern New Hampshire University, BuzzAround Intern. BuzzAround focuses on actions we can do to live more sustainably. We can do it!

In Loving Memory of Joseph LoSciuto, owner and operator of Milk Bottle Restaurant
At 68, Joseph Vincent, Jr., also called Papa Joe, suddenly passed away on December 29, 2023. Joe was the late Joseph and Agnes LoSciuto's Boston-born son. His love of the great outdoors and his commitment to his family defined his life. Joe started his studies at Blue Hills Regional Technical High School, where he became passionate about skilled crafts at an early age. He left the electronics industry in 2000 to become the owner of the Milk Bottle Restaurant in Raynham, where he spent more than 20 years building a cherished gathering place for the locals.
Joe loved to hunt and fish, telling tales and daydreaming of Alaska. His enjoyment of riding his Harley served as a symbol of his love of the open road. He was an ordinary man. At his core, he was a straightforward man who liked "shooting the shit" and simple pleasures like coffee. Joe was a loyal and loving family man who took good care of his grandchildren and kids. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his devoted clients, family, and friends.

"Halfway between Boston and Cape Cod."
I told my Florida granddaughters, pointing to us on the map while we plan our adventures for their week -long stay.
I particularly enjoy living where we do:
Half an hour and we can be eating at a Brazilian Restaurant.
Half an hour and we can be walking on fielded acres of a nature preserve, feeling the sun on our face and watching the birds lift off.
Half an hour and we can be experiencing incredible art at Brockton Public Library, or Fuller Craft or Enzo Flats.
Half an hour to a musical at Bridgewater State University or Massasoit Community College.
Half an hour and we can visit a farm, saying “Hi “ to the animals.
An hour and we can be walking on a beach, spotting seals or snowy owls.
An hour to climb Blue Hills for a treetop view.
An hour on the Commuter Rail to Downtown Boston.
Two hours and we have hit mountains.
We can go snow tubing or skiing.
Bingo! They chose; having never seen snow. Two hours and we were at Gunstock Mountain, trying on skis and throwing snowballs at each other.
|
Yes, I particularly enjoy living where we do.
