Defend Democracy–Protect the Vote
Emily Levy, founder of Scrutineers.org
Voting rights have never been so important or so threatened across the US. This Thursday we’ll launch the WILPF US Voting Rights Tool Kit, with gratitude to Ashley Carrington of the Triangle Branch and the Black Liberation Caucus.

You, your branch and your allies will want to learn what’s included in the toolkit and how best to use it so zoom in! The tools included will be useful right up through the 2024 Presidential Elections.

WILPF-US is proud to represent a long history of women working for the change in our work and democratic process, from suffragettes Marie Louise Bottineau Baldwin, Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, and Jovita Idár. To the 1869 founding of the National Woman Suffrage Association by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the 1913 Alpha Suffrage Club founded by Ida. B. Wells, a former slave; women have always been at the forefront of the protection of American democracy and voting rights.

The work of the WILPF-US Voting Rights Ad Hoc Committee has been innovative and diligent but also directly connected to the historical work of the suffragists who came before us. We have created a Voting Rights Toolkit to be distributed to all WILPF-US branches across the country. The toolkit will be available this summer in order to support the efforts of voter registration, increased voter turnout/participation, election time awareness and voter awareness before the midterm elections in the fall. It is our hope that through raising awareness and supporting voting rights we will add to the legacy created by our foremothers.

Emily Levy from Scrutineers.org (link to https://scrutineers.org/) will discuss the observer and monitor trainings they are setting up, to discourage vote tampering, and how to intervene effectively afterwards in case of close results. Scrutineers teaches volunteers how to show up effectively during vote counting and processing.

Judy Adams (Peninsula/Palo Alto CA) will explain some strategies for getting out the vote in non-partisan ways, even in challenging parts of the country. There are lots of ways you can help, even if your time and mobility are limited.

And there will be announcements you won’t want to miss as well.

JOIN this Zoom to share your own perspective and that of your branch.
