When in your life did you know you wanted to work with children?
"Way back when I was in Grade 4."
Did anything or anyone specifically motivate you to work with children with diverse needs?
"I worked with someone who had a bit of difficulty understanding his lessons and I was assigned to that student. I found myself being very engaged and involve with his work."
What is your favorite thing about working with children?
"I enjoy working at centers in a play based setting. This makes it easier to get children engaged. Also during play, I enjoy watching them have fun and enjoying every day. It is so rewarding because I know that I am creating a positive impact in their lives."
Have you learned anything about yourself, or life in general, because of your job?
"I have learned patience, caring, loving, and passion. I believe without such characteristics it would not be possible to work with these precious children."
If everyone in Calgary were listening to you all at once, what is one thing you would like them to know about children with diverse needs?
"It is important to have individualized support and inclusive environments for all children with diverse needs. Focusing on their needs ensures that everyone will have the opportunity to thrive and accomplish a bright future. We can never underestimate an individual's capability no matter what."
