Mayer Bills Pass the Senate
I am very pleased that several of my bills passed the Senate last week.
S. 4020C, deems emergency medical services (EMS) an essential service. This is an important step towards giving EMS providers the recognition and support they deserve and need. I am deeply grateful for every EMS provider across the state and particularly for the leaders in Westchester, County Emergency Services Commissioner Richard Wishnie, and Deputy Commissioner Susan Spear, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS Administrator Kenny Barton, and Rye Brook Village Administrator Chris Bradbury, as well as the New York Association of Counties, and so many others who care about the EMS community, for working together to acknowledge and protect our critical EMS services throughout NYS. I also thank my colleague, Assemblyman Steve Otis, who has been championing this legislation in the Assembly. Click here to view my remarks.
S.9018A, requires every school board and Board of Cooperative Education Services in the state to have a non-voting, student member. This will ensure student voices are heard and will build habits of civic engagement that students will carry with them throughout their lives. Click here to view my remarks.
S.8834, prevents the enforcement of restrictions prohibiting the display of religious items on entry doors or door frames of dwellings. This is an important measure in ensuring the freedom of religious expression for all New Yorkers.
S.8339A, ensures family courts remain open to the public, unless they must be closed to protect vulnerable parties. This legislation will offer great transparency and accountability for our courts and those involved.
S.6210A, requires that town and village court data be reported by the Office of Court Administration. New Yorkers deserve accessible and updated data.
