Solano Pride community, family, friends and allies,
Some goodbyes are harder than others, and this is one of them.
My time with the Solano Pride Center has come to an end. When I took on the role as Youth Coordinator three and a half years ago, I never dreamed of getting as far as I did. This job not only aided my growth as I've grown into adult-hood, but has given me a clearer mindset when it comes to the youth of our community.
To anyone I've worked with, collaborated with, helped, and just had the privilege of getting to know through this job, thank you. Watching the youth community grow, and being able to provide support to those who needed it will forever live with me.
Thank you to the staff at SPC for not only believing in me, but also helping me grow. I truly appreciate the guidance given to me over the years, and will take the knowledge I have to new opportunities. Keep on doing the excellent work you're doing.
The world works in mysterious ways, and when one door closes, another one opens.
Thank you for the last 3.5 years, much love to all, and I'll see you out in the community,
Trystan McReynolds

Dear Friends,
We are so sad to lose Trystan from our team. The transition comes in the season we are working on new contracts with the County after Prop 1 changed our funding sources. We will take a break from our youth programming this summer, and attempt to create new programming that includes children to adults in new ways this autumn. Our social and support groups will still be available this summer, and look for a Community Forum later this summer to offer your input on what you'd like to see in programming for folx of various ages. In the meantime, if you need our counseling or case management services, please do call or email us to get into services!
We want to thank Trystan McReynolds for their years of service, supporting our young people in person to our Discord Server (which continues to be available). Your production of the many Proms and Halloween Dances and many parties, hang outs, ice cream, and silliness will never be the same. It was your idea to have us represented in the 4th of July Parade here in Fairfield, and we thank you for all of your work over the years creating community, supporting one another, and having fun along the way. If you know of a position where they would excel, please share it with them!
We will be honoring Trystan Wednesday night at the Reception for the Singing Tree Murals, POC Trans Exhibit from 7-8:30 pm in the Conference Room.
In service, Will McGarvey

Wednesday, July 8th at 7 pm. Reception for the POC Trans Installation & Singing Tree Mural at the Center’s Conference Room!
Join us the evening of Wednesday, July 8th at 7 pm in the Conference Room at the Center for an evening of viewing two art installations! The same POC Trans installation that has been at the GLBT Historical Museum and Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum on June 12th is coming to the Solano Pride Center from July 6th to early August 7th. Thanks to Paul from the Vallejo Museum for the fabulous install of the Exhibit today!
If you are in the area during the day between 9 am and 5 pm, the front door of the building is open, and you are free to see the exhibit as long as none of our neighbors have the room reserved or are meeting there.
| |
Here's how SPC Board Member Caroline Eibenberger describes the Mural project!
"Being part of the Singing Tree Mural creator was an excellent experience. I didn't know what to expect when I signed up but was pleasantly surprised. One thing I learned is there are no mistakes in Art and that was enough to give me the confidence I needed to feel like I belonged in the group. The people in the group were very welcoming and warm, no judgement.
Vickie, Leslie, and Diana were absolutely wonderful. They provided a lot of guidance and encouragement along the way. They made me feel completely at ease in the environment.
I learned more about Crescent Moon and am excited to begin volunteering with them. All in all it was a great experience I think others would find the same given the opportunity."

Community Congregational Church UCC of Benicia is hosting a FREE Concert in honor of our 160th Anniversary on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:00pm at 1305 W. 2nd street, Benicia.
We are fortunate to sponsor an evening of songs and stories with Bobby Jo Valentine, award-winning and hope-filled, LGBTQ+ modern folk artist.
Bobby Jo Valentine’s music exists outside the lines of any genre, but the music’s thoughtful, spirit focused lyrics and catchy melodies reach listeners across all walks of life. The poetic nature and spiritual focus of his stories and songs has resulted in notable awards and a growing, loyal following around the country. He’s found a voice with original, hopeful songs about the gentle everyday spiritual awakenings of an openhearted life.
Growing up and emerging out of a Baptist Church of strict lines and sharp edges, Bobby Jo Valentine has emerged into a larger, kinder, more welcoming faith…one that is excited to learn, open to growth, and focused on love.
Along with theatres, house concerts, and many other kinds of stages, Bobby is often invited to offer his stories and songs at faith communities around the nation. Among others, he has been invited to perform for The Wild Goose Festival, the international Emerge Conference, and the 2017 General Synod of the United Church of Christ. His music has won Song of the Year twice at West Coast Songwriter’s Association, and his work has appeared on radio, TV, and feature films. He has performed artist residencies, hosted songwriting workshops, and been involved in helping communities of all types use their spaces and voice in more creative and powerful ways.
Bobby currently hails from Northern California, and is ecstatic any time he can discuss the big questions, challenge the easy answers, and inspire people to move closer to love.
You can hear music, watch performances, and get information on catching a show at www.bobbyjovalentine.com.

Can you spare a few dollars to help keep the Center open during these trying times? LGBTQIA2S+ Centers across the state are experiencing a drop in donations, and your support is crucial to help us continue delivering the life-saving services our community depends on. We've even put all of our donation and Pride links in the same place above!
We are recognizing that the uncertainty since Trump returned to office has definitely affected giving for our life-sustaining programs. If you are in a place to share financially right now, we definitely need your help right now. You can even set up a monthly donation of as little as $5 a month, which helps us more than you can know.
If you are giving to our General Fund to support all of our programming, you can give through our portal on Zeffy at https://tinyurl.com/Give2SolanoPride. Stephan's Corner
Solano Pride Community!
We have made it! In this last week of Pride month, I want us to reflect on the truth.
Riot. Stonewall Inn, the beginnings of what would become Pride, was a riot and what happened at Compton Cafeteria, was also a riot. Both predominantly supported by transgender women of color, a group of our community that continually takes the brunt of the abuses directed at us all.
Do not be lulled into a space of inaction, privileged temporary safety or comfort. We all must continue to push the movement forward. We must bring to the surface, which is being erased by oppressors.
Stand together, document, speak out, vote, protest and call everything out. If we stand together and educate, we will begin setting the foundation for a future created by the dreams of our ancestors, and lived in by our descendants.
The time is now. Thank you for being here.
Stephan your Prez

Coping with Loss and Grief.
Grief has no set boundaries. Grief comes in many different avenues such as losing a spouse, parents, a sibling, your pet, the loss of a friend or a friendship, even the loss of a job can cause us to grieve.
The group will continue Friday, July 10th from 2 - 3:30 am on zoom. Friday, July 24th will go back to regular timing from 10 - 11:30 am on zoom.
The way in which we cope with the loss is the way in which we begin to heal and move forward with our lives no matter the depth of pain and sorrow we are in. One way and there are many depending on how one copes with the loss is to talk about what we are feeling, what we are going through and share those feelings and thoughts with others who may be experiencing the same just as you are. The grief counseling session is an avenue for people to continue their healing process. More info, including the zoom link, at Kacen@solanopride.org or Tim Meyers at tjm1756@yahoo.com.

The CRECE (Community Rising through Education & Civic Engagement) Project works to reduce tobacco-related harms and advance health equity in Vacaville and Suisun City.
A key focus of our work is supporting comprehensive Tobacco Retail Licensing (TRL) policies that help reduce youth access to tobacco products, including flavored tobacco products.
In addition to our policy efforts, we offer free educational presentations on tobacco prevention and the harms of tobacco, particularly its impact on youth and in our communities. We also provide advocacy training for residents interested in getting involved and creating healthier communities.
I've included some information about the CRECE Project below and attached a flyer for easy sharing. Feel free to pass it along to anyone who may be interested, and they're welcome to contact me directly with any questions.
About the CRECE Project
CRECE is a community-driven tobacco prevention initiative working to advance health equity and create healthier, tobacco-free communities in Vacaville and Suisun City.
Our project focuses on educating community members about the harms of commercial tobacco, reducing youth access to tobacco products, and supporting local policies that protect community health.
CRECE offers:
• Educational presentations on commercial tobacco and its impact on community health
• Advocacy trainings for residents interested in creating positive change
• Opportunities to engage with local decision-makers
• Volunteer and community engagement opportunities
Everyone is welcome to participate. We at SPC are going to partner with the Crece Project, and need volunteers to represent our community willing to do interviews with citizens of Vacaville and Suisun in helping get the data about community views as they work to increase the policies that protect LGBTQ+ folx from the targeting of Big Tobacco. Contact Will@solanopride.org for more info.

This week was definitely a mixed bag. While we got good news on Monday about Governor Newsom signing a pro-equality budget, the Supreme Court handed down yet another anti-trans ruling in the consolidated cases of B.P.J. v. West Virginia State Board of Education and Hecox v. Little; their 6-3 decision upheld bans on transgender girls playing sports in school, but stopped short of creating a license to discriminate against the trans community at large. Scroll to read more about both these news items.

Week of June 28-July 4, 2026:

Governor Newsom Signs Budget That Includes Funding for Trans Healthcare, Uncompensated Care, LGBTQ+ Centers: On Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a pro-equality budget that specifically seeks to preserve access to healthcare for transgender Californians in addition to monies for Uncompensated Care and LGBTQ+ community center support. With the federal government threatening to withhold Medicare and Medicaid funding for hospitals and providers that offer transition-related care, Equality California and a coalition of civil rights, LGBTQ+ and healthcare organizations had lobbied for $26 million to set up a state pathway for such care. Read our statement alongside reactions from our coalition partners, as well as our list of thank-yous to the legislators who championed our asks.

6-3 Supreme Court Ruling Lets Transgender Athlete Bans Stand: The conservative majority court ruled on Tuesday that state bans on transgender girls participating in school sports do not violate the Constitution, and may be enforced. However, as disappointing as the ruling is, the decision was limited to the specific questions before the Court and does not resolve broader questions about protections for transgender people. Schools and states can continue to adopt inclusive policies that ensure every student is treated with dignity and respect. Read our statement here.

Pete Buttigieg Targeted by False CPS Report, Resulting in Temporary Parental Separation: After a false anonymous complaint was filed against Buttigieg accusing him of putting his children at risk, the former Secretary of Transportation and Presidential candidate was separated from his children temporarily while law enforcement and CPS completed an investigation. After the report was determined to be false, Buttigieg and husband Chasten were reuinted with their 4-year-old twins Gus and Penelope. O on his Substack, Buttigieg wrote about what he called "every parent's nightmare," noting he believed it was no coincidence that the events transpired during Pride Month.

Transgender Troops Score Major Win in Federal Court; Trial Date Set: Federal Judge Ana Reyes expanded the case against the Trump administration's transgender military ban on Tuesday, certifying a class of current and prospective servicemembers beyond the plaintiffs already challenging the ban. Reyes also scheduled the case for a January 4, 2027 trial date. In response, Shannon Minter — Legal Director for the National Center for LGBTQ+ Rights and the lead co-counsel for the plaintiffs — stated, "This is an incredibly significant case for our country, for the military, and for the thousands of transgender individuals who have dedicated their lives to military service."

Equality California Endorses Richard Barrera for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction: Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Richard Barrera for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “California’s next State Superintendent must be prepared to defend public education, protect LGBTQ+ students, and ensure every young person has the opportunity to succeed,” said Tony Hoang, executive director of Equality California. “Richard Barrera has spent his career standing up for students and families, advancing policies that make schools safer and more inclusive, and fighting back against political attacks on the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ young people. We are proud to endorse his campaign and look forward to working alongside him to ensure the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ students in California.” Full Statement.

July Health & Wellness Observances
| | |
BIPOC Mental Health Month:
Originally called “National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month,” this month aims to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by racial and ethnic groups that have been oppressed or disenfranchised. It promotes finding alternative, culturally responsive mental healthcare and building strong, supportive community networks.
| |
Disability Pride Month: Raise awareness about the capabilities and achievements of people living with a disability. This month-long observance aims to challenge stigma and promote a more inclusive workplace and world. Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July to honor the history, achievements, and experiences of the disability community, while also commemorating the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The first Disability Pride Day was held in Boston in 1990. It evolved into a month-long observance, officially recognized starting in July 2015 for the 25th anniversary of the ADA. The month is dedicated to promoting visibility, challenging systemic ableism, and celebrating disability culture and leadership
| |
National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month (also known as BIPOC Mental Health Month) is dedicated to addressing the unique mental health struggles and systemic barriers faced by racial and ethnic minority communities. It is a time for education, solidarity, and breaking down the cultural stigmas surrounding mental healthcare.
Formally recognized in 2008, the month is named in honor of Bebe Moore Campbell—a trailblazing author, journalist, and mental health advocate. Her visionary work championed culturally competent care and highlighted how historical trauma, lack of insurance, and language barriers disproportionately affect underrepresented groups.

Non-Binary People's Day (July 14th):
Nonbinary Awareness Week, culminates in International Nonbinary People’s Day on July 14. What does non-binary mean? The definition provided by Stonewall (Britain’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans equality) is: “Non-binary is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity doesn’t sit comfortably with ‘man’ or ‘woman’. Non-binary identities are varied and can include people who identify with some aspects of binary identities, while others reject them entirely. “Non-binary people can feel that their gender identity and gender experience involves being both a man and a woman, or that it is fluid, in between, or completely outside of that binary.”
