FRIDAY FLASH

August 18, 2023

A Message from Headmaster Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

At the beginning of the year, one of the things we ask our teachers to be particularly attentive to is our school uniform. The first thing a uniform does is demonstrate belonging to a group. When one dons a uniform he or she steps into a specific role. In our case, it is the role of a Trivium Squire, and within that, as a scholar. A uniform is a visual demonstration of one’s commitment to a particular group. The good of the group is elevated above individual tastes and preferences. The strong sense of community we enjoy comes about through many factors, and one of the major factors is our uniform.

Though it may seem ironic, the second thing a uniform does is promote individual expression. Obviously, individual expression can happen in many forms. By committing to unity, our scholars lose the opportunity to judge based on outward appearance. If I cannot make a statement about myself by dyeing my hair, wearing raggedy pants, or sporting the latest sneakers, then my statements have to come through my words and my behaviors. Without this option, our scholars are forced to look inward—to see and understand each other on a more humane level.

I am grateful for our uniform policy. It has done much good over the years, and will continue to do so. I am often asked about the details of our uniform policy, and I am always open to clarify any of these finer points. However, I think parents and students can make many of the decisions on their own simply by asking “what statement am I making with this [backpack, hairstyle, shoe, etc.]?” I would encourage you, when making these decisions, to always make the statement that solidifies and prioritizes your role as a scholar and a squire.

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Academy Giving

On this last day of service to Trivium in my current role, I wanted to express my humble gratitude for the amazing community that we have. For a decade, I have been moved by the incredible generosity of our families. This year is no different; we are off to an amazing start with our current list of donors to Community Investment. Thank you, donors! Please remember that Altered Combat, a Trivium family business, is sponsoring yet another give-away of VR goggles to one lucky donor for 2023-24. If you have never thought it was important to support the school with a gift to Community Investment, I ask you to please re-consider. If everyone gave something in support of the school we have chosen for our children, imagine the even bigger mountains we could move together and keep us #TriviumStrong.

The ever-popular tradition of our magnet calendar will be distributed again this year as a thank you to our community investment donors. Due to the generosity of this year’s family businesses that have sponsored the calendar, Kim Penn Realty Group and Benefit Air, we will be able to also provide the calendars to all of our families! We are grateful to the Penn and Vargas Families. The magnet calendars, which do include the half days this year 😊, will be sent home through your youngest scholar very soon.

After Monday, August 21 and until further notice, please send any questions about Community Investment and Tax Credit to Tina Swartz, our Regional Family Giving Manager Arizona, at tina.swartz@greathearts.org or (623) 271-2660. I highly encourage anyone with a desire to make a difference at the school to consider applying for this position. It has been an incredible opportunity for me to learn about and appreciate so much more about the inner workings of Trivium. We truly have the best families, faculty, and staff. Even if you do not have specific fundraising experience, do not underestimate the many transferable skills you might possess to fulfill this critical role for the school. Someone from within our own Trivium community will already organically have a foundation of relationship-building that will serve as an important asset for being successful in this position. If you know someone eager to join us as a Trivium family, this might also be an excellent in-road for them. Please encourage them to apply! Thank you, Trivium.

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up

Please carefully review the Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out to the front office with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.

General Reminders:

  • Morning Drop-off is from 7:20-7:47 AM. Parents who wish to drop-off earlier must enroll in Early Drop-off Club.
  • Parents in the drop-off/pick-up zone must remain in their vehicle. Faculty will assist students exiting their vehicles, however, faculty are not allowed to assist students with car seats, so parents are highly encouraged to practice prior to the start of the year so that students are able to do that independently.
  • Please have your GREEN or ORANGE pick-up card clearly displayed on your dashboard during pick-up to help keep our process running smoothly. Pick-up cards will be handed out at Meet the Teacher in your oldest Archway child's classroom.
  • Due to limited parking, there will be NO walk-up option for student drop-off/pick-up at this time.
  • Parents with both Archway and Prep students: There is NO Archway drop-off/pick-up on the Prep side of campus. You must use the Archway Traffic Lanes to pick up your Archway/Prep students. Please review the pick-up procedure with your Trivium Prep students emphasizing the importance of arriving to the Archway Pick-up/Drop-off Zone promptly after school to be ready to load into your vehicle.
  • Parents picking up Archway and Middle School Students, DO NOT arrive to campus before 3:15 PM. You may not wait for your middle school student in the Archway Pick-up Line if arriving before this time.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
