After a long-awaited renovation and upgrades to every exhibit, the Railroad Station Exhibit Center opened on July 4th and was rededicated on July 9th. Several hundred people came through the doors to see the new exhibits.

The July 9th dedication committee was chaired by Julia Wiggins. Committee members were Susan Williams, Gretchen Giles, Kent Tamsen, and Katrina Tamsen.

A highlight of the exhibit center is the extensive collection of historic photographs drawn from the Historical Society's archives. Many of these rare images date back to the early 1900s and provide a fascinating glimpse into everyday life during the county's formative years.

Over 100 hours were spent by Kent and Katrina Tamsen and Penny Chandler curating the new exhibits.

Thanks to Historical Society President Jonnie Mae Perry and Vice President Kent Tamsen for their parts in the rededication program.

And our sincere thanks to Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno, County Commission Chairman Deryl Loar, and County Historian Ruth Stanbridge for their remarks at the rededication.

Thank you to the following people and businesses who helped us prepare the railroad station for opening:

  • Jimmy's Air Conditioning
  • Casano Electric
  • Precision Cabinets (Karl Kirchner)
  • Paul Halleran, Volunteer Extraordinaire
  • Just Windows
  • Complete Cleaning Service of Indian River County
  • Image 360
  • Frugal Framer

Second Time Visitor

This charming 3-year-old has visited the new exhibit center twice since it opened. Once with his grandparents and, a second time, with his mom. He loves trains and is enthralled by the model railroad in the exhibit center.

Are you able to identify these early settlers

whose portraits are displayed in our exhibit center?
