Dear Holy Name Families,
Each morning, we have been enjoying the addition of song to our morning assembly thanks to Dr. Thorp and Student Council. This long standing tradition has livened our mornings with the National Anthem, Immaculate Mary, and other hymns. Today, Dr. Thorp and Student Council had some additional accompaniment. Mrs. Foley's kindergarten class, K2-C, joined in the singing of our school song - "Cheer, Cheer for Great Holy Name." They did a great job and the school spirit was a great start to our morning.
In addition to singing, students have been demonstrating their lyrical talents through poetry recently. The sixth graders composed poetry about their neighborhoods and streets while first graders are working with fall themed poems. In addition, the fourth grade is in the process of writing their own poems emulating the style of William Carlos Williams in "Red Wheelbarrow."
October is the Month of the Holy Rosary. On Wednesday, we will gather as a school community to pray the Rosary. We will be joined by Coach Joe Mazzulla of the Boston Celtics who will join us by Zoom.
Next week, students will receive their first progress report before Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday. As a reminder, Thursday is a half-day of school to accommodate conferences.
Enjoy the weekend.
Best regards,
Mr. Chisholm

| | | Holy Name Happenings- Through the Lens | | STEM in Second Grade! After reading Frank the Seven-Legged Spider by Michaele Razin, Mrs. Davis’s second grade STEM class (2-B) took on an engineering challenge! With Frank missing a leg, students designed a replacement that could bend, climb, and crawl. They explored materials, sketched their plans, and put their problem-solving skills to work. The class successfully helped Frank get back on his eight-legged feet! | | |
💀 Learning About the Human Body in First Grade! First graders are exploring the skeletal system as part of the Human Body unit! They’ve learned about the 206 bones in the human body and created full-body posters featuring illustrations of the body’s systems, including the nervous system. To bring their learning to life, students made these spooky skeletons for the hallway bulletin boards—just in time for Halloween!
Next up, students will work in groups on Monday to create oil X-rays of their hands. Check out the school’s social media pages on Monday to see their creations.
