I’m not sure about you, but this year has felt like it is going by quicker than normal—we are already into September and summer has flown by! With kids out of school, longer days, and warmer temperatures, many people think of summer as a time of “rest” - a time to get-away from the every day of life, maybe even go on vacation.
Throughout Scripture, we’re taught, by example, the importance of rest. In Genesis, God created, and then, on the 7th day, rested. Throughout the Old Testament, the Israelites were commanded to observe a “Sabbath” - a time of rest. Often, when we don’t take that break, that time to regroup, we may (even unintentionally) be convincing ourselves that “oh, we got this!” or “...it’s just another day…” Unfortunately, that may be just what our enemy wants… for us to be self-confident and not relying solely upon our Lord Jesus Christ day-by-day, moment-by-moment.
Matthew 11 reminds us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls—” Matthew 11:28-29 Our Lord Jesus is always faithful. He desires us to live in victory through obedience—and trust HIM. May the end of this “summertime” find you trusting our Lord Jesus and HIS faithfulness, as you find rest in HIM — for HIS glory!
