A Note from the Executive Director | | |
Dear Colleague,
Every day the world is roiled by new threats and events that claim lives, inflict suffering, and destabilize our world. Their presence is also testament to the importance of global health as a mechanism to prevent or address these challenges. In this, our July newsletter, you will see an array of actions CUGH and its members and partners are engaged in to address these and other challenges. Activities that can save lives, prevent suffering, and help put our planet on a path to a sustainable future for all. These are activities you, your students, and members in your network can join. The impact of these outputs can be realized if they are acted upon and shared widely and often. Please help us to do so. Our collective actions will determine the effect these activities can have on people and our planet.
Thank you for sharing and engaging with these opportunities.

CUGH Press Release: Protect U.S.
Leadership & Support for PAHO -
Open Letter to Sign & Share
| | |
The U.S. Administration’s FY2027 budget request proposes eliminating U.S. funding for PAHO. Deadly infectious diseases and other emerging threats remain a persistent threat across the hemisphere. They are best addressed through effective collaboration amongst nations. Leaving PAHO poses a grave security risk to the United States, leaving it far less prepared to identify and respond to public health emergencies and other threats. If you are in the U.S. speak to your elected officials and ask them to uphold U.S. support for and leadership in PAHO.
Read the full press release here.
Sign and share the support letter here.
| CUGH Call to Action: Stop Proposed Regulations that will Politicize & Severely Weaken U.S. Research Capabilities | |
Publicly funded research has been governed by a straightforward principle: federal dollars should fund the best science, as determined by independent experts rather than politicians. Peer review, open competition, and institutional autonomy were the pillars of that system. New regulations proposed by the U.S. Administration will dismantle these three pillars, politicizing U.S. research. They will be government-wide and binding on every federal agency by October 1, 2026. Please read, share, and take the actions listed here.
-
CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSPERSONS TO STOP THESE PROPOSED REGULATIONS. Tell them why these changes harm the health, prosperity, and security of the U.S.
- SHARE THIS CALL TO ACTION.
| Advocacy Resources: ROI of U.S. Investment in Research & International Development | Please see the links below that describe the value of investing in research, global health, and international development for the U.S. Engage your elected officials and share this information with them. This material will not only describe what the U.S. should invest in but importantly, why they should do it and why these investments matter to their voters and the country. | |
