USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight: Miami International Riding Club
|
|
Tell us a little about your program and who you serve.
MIRC’s mission is to introduce people to different aspects of the horse world, but always with the love and care for the horse first. MIRC is well known as a very successful show barn located in South Florida but MIRC is much more than that. MIRC has found its niche In the youth component of its programs. MIRC’s goal is to transform young people into true horse people that work through love, passion and knowledge. It is a very family-oriented facility, and a top level show barn.
What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
We felt that MIRC truly embraces the values the RRA program promotes. We work hard to have a safe barn that teaches people how to become all-around horsemen and horsewomen. We want them to learn about horsemanship, barn management, horse care, and horse well-being, as much as learning how to ride. From the riding perspective, we focus on making sure we teach the basics and fundamentals very well, and that riders follow a program that allows them to grow and succeed.
Briefly tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best lesson horse around!
MIRC has many special and wonderful lesson horses! But if we have to choose then it would be “Lacey”. Lacey is a gorgeous large AQHA pony mare. Lacey is nothing short of a wonder horse, she is great as a first mount for first time riders, even for the very timid or scared ones. She can take a cute tiny 4 year old to win in the leadline division, as well as shine in the jumper ring flying through the 2’3" courses. She is the go-to horse when teaching riders with disabilities, as she has even helped a blind rider navigate dressage tests, and tiny cross-rails. Lacey is also a superstar during youth outreach events and during summer camps.
