Santee Falcons SOAR! Principal's Update
November 17, 2019
Principal Ansley's Weekly Message
Dear Santee Family,

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
B.B. King
We are in college application season. Our students are working hard to submit all of their applications in time and our staff has been working around the clock to support them through the process.
Please continue to encourage all of our Falcons to reach for their highest educational goals and their highest academic potential. Our college counselors and teachers will be assisting students and parents all week as well as Monday-Wednesday during the Thanksgiving break.

Some of our students have already received on the spot college acceptances (like in the picture above) and we are looking forward to celebrating with all of our students' college acceptances in the spring! Thank you again to all of our counselors, teachers, staff and community partners who have been supporting students with their essays, applications, WRC and financial aid forms. Their success is our reward!

Working Together, All Santee Falcons Will Soar !

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to call our main office or email Principal Susana Ansley-Gutierrez at susana.gutierrez@lausd.net.

B) Santee Hard Truths

  • During the long weekend there was a break-in where they vandalized numerous areas on our campus including our Main Office, Wellness Center, Intervention room and Library. Thanks to law enforcement and our amazing custodial team we were able to get all the evidence needed and our school was quickly cleaned and repaired. Please stay vigilant and call our neighborhood police station or text-a-tip if you see something suspicious!

  • Our Assistant Principal, Ms. Garrett has had a big loss in her family and will be out for a few days. We love you and send you our condolences. If you had a planned meeting with Ms. Garrett, please see me and we will reschedule or another administrator will support you with your needs.

Santee Updates
A) Attendance:

Congratulations to the following grade levels for their attendance submittal:
1st place: 12th grade
2nd place: 9th grade
3rd place: 11th grade
4th place: 10th grade

Overall student attendance rate for the month of October was 94.3% and as of 11/15/19 we are at 94.2%.

Thank you to the Science department for having 100% attendance submittal and to PE and English for having 98%. Great job Falcons!

Taking accurate attendance is a major concern we are having. Students are being marked present when they are not at school. This is causing inaccurate attendance reporting and is also causing concerns with parents regarding students attendance.
We need to continue to remind our students the importance of being in school and in class. Remember 96% or higher attendance rate for every student.

Please continue to use the PSA online referral form if you have a concern regarding any students attendance. The PSA's will respond to the referral in a timely manner.

B) Teachers, remember to sign up for Ms. Borrus' and LA Opera's Production of "Orpheus" on Tuesday. Enjoy some theater as we launch into the holiday season! The production will begin after lunch and will extend into 6th period. Check your boxes - or check with Ms. Borrus - for more information.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
