MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

This past weekend marked the 50th anniversaries of active service for George Camp Jr. and Palmino "Paul" Solla with Monitor Hose Company #4. The Village thanks both men for their five decades of dedication to the Ossining Fire Department.

Who knew registering to vote could be so much fun? Thanks to the League of Women Voters for running registration workshops at Ossining High School, where I enjoyed meeting students and discussing local politics and civics with teachers.

Governor Hochul announced nearly $500 million in statewide water infrastructure grants—delivering the first installment of the State’s $3.75 billion Clean Water Investment Plan to support 106 drinking water and sewer projects, save local ratepayers an estimated $1 billion in debt service, and create 22,400 jobs statewide. The Mid-Hudson region received $66 million across seven projects, and we are thrilled to share that the Village of Ossining was awarded $4,227,300 to directly support our water fund infrastructure! Thank you to everyone who had a hand in writing the winning application and securing these critical funds for our community.

Get into the Halloween spirit at the annual Pumpkin Patch and Hayride at Nelson Park, hosted by the Ossining Recreation & Parks Department on Friday, October 23, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Children ages 12 and under can pick a pumpkin, enjoy cider and donuts, and take a hayride, though advance registration is required at https://bit.ly/2026HauntedHayride.

This week’s Legislative Meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 at 7:30PM at the Courthouse.

Some items of note:

  • We will begin with a Public Hearing on Stuart’s recommended changes to the Overnight Parking sections of the Village code, as discussed at the Work Session on September 23rd.
  • During the Manager’s Report, Rob Daniele from O’Connor Davies will join us to present the 2025 Village Audit results.
  • We will then have a resolution to appoint James Hughes to the Placemaking Committee.
  • The BOT will have a resolution to adopt the changes to the Zoning Code regarding Small Scale Zoning Part Two, after soliciting comments from the public, the Village Planning Board, and Westchester County.
  • The BOT will have a resolution to apply for a $100,000 CREST grant for renovations to the Snowden Avenue Skate Park, including replacement and/or upgrades to existing equipment, and improved safety lighting.
  • We will have a resolution for the BOT to adopt (3) of the IT policies reviewed this week, including the Information Security Policy (front end and back-end components), and the Social Media Policy. The AI Policy, after receiving the Board’s comments, will need a little longer to finalize.
  • Finally, we have added the form resolution provided by NYSDOT for the Route 9 Safety Improvements project funding. As a reminder, the Village is only responsible for the 20% match, but will need to pass this resolution to commit the entire amount for cashflow purposes.
