This week, fifth grade students Zoomed with women’s pro football player Adrienne Smith as part of their “athletes for social change” unit. After watching her talk at TEDx Laguna Blanca School, fifth graders realized what a great connection she was to their unit on athletes who use their platforms to promote social change. Students asked Adrienne questions about women in sports, the causes she supports (women in sports, math education, and Heart of Gold which helps homeless mothers and children transition out of the shelter system and into permanent homes), and what she predicts about the future of women in football. "Adrienne was a kind and generous speaker," says Ms. Carney. "And the students enjoyed talking to a true pro!"
