This Sunday at STS
Professor Roberta Rosenthal Kwall will discuss her widely acclaimed new book, which explores how to deepen the connection to Jewish tradition outside of strict compliance with the rules of Jewish law.  Please RSVP, as the program begins with a light breakfast and the Men's Club needs to know how many to cook for.
March of the Living Trip with Rabbi Camras
March of the Living Trip with Rabbi Camras
The deadline to fill out the application for the March of the Living Trip is November 21, 2022, so don't delay. The Conversations about Antisemitism section (below), especially the video of our STS/TA Chaverim teens from CBS Mornings, highlights the importance of a trip like The March of the Living, which deepens friendships and leaves impressions about our defiance in the face of antisemitism that will last a lifetime.
Conversations about Antisemitism
Teens from Shomrei Torah and Temple Aliyah's Chaverim Youth Department discuss their personal encounters with antisemitism, both in school and online, during this segment of CBS Mornings which aired on Monday.
Shomrei Torah member and radio host Ken Jeffries talks with Rabbi Erez Sherman, former LA Times sportswriter and STS member Steve Springer, and LA sportscaster Ted Sobel. They analyze the NBA star’s online promotion of an anti-Semitic film and how it should be dealt with.
If you were to type “Hebrew” into the Amazon search bar, almost every result would include an iteration of the antisemitic film “Hebrews to Negros.” In addition, the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism recently uncovered over 30 pieces of hateful propaganda ranging from Holocaust-denial to the Great Replacement Theory being promoted and sold by Amazon. Join with Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and National Director of the ADL, in demanding that Amazon stops giving a platform to antisemitism and commits to stop selling hateful products.

Join the Bikkor Cholim Committee
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been reading in our Torah about our ancestors Abraham and Sarah who are models of chesed, acts of loving kindness. Shomrei Torah prides itself on being a community of caring individuals who reach out in gracious help when members are in need. To that end, our bikkur cholim committee, dedicated to caring for those in our community who are suffering illness, are seeking additional volunteers who are willing to prepare and or deliver meals to members in need. Please email clergy assistant Connie Tassa if you are able to join in this holy mitzvah.
STS Community Garden
Did you know that at Shomrei Torah we have been growing fresh vegetables that have gone to the West Valley Food Pantry? Our garden is on a flat-raised area off the top end of the parking lot with stairs up to the site. Please come out and help as we ramp up for the spring growing season. We have monthly meetings to plan and Sunday workdays with one planned for December 11 to get the garden ready. One of our goals is education, so children of all ages are welcome to help to better understand where their food comes from. Please contact Gil Solomon at CaliforniaMD@aol.com or 818-470-0690 for more information.
Shomrei Torah Sisterhood is now taking pre-orders for the 2023 Mah Jongg Cards. Sisterhood benefits from each card that you purchase.
