County-based payments: Aid announced for farmers impacted by trade dispute
As the trade dispute with China continues to drag on, pressuring commodity prices, the Trump administration announced a new round of the Market Facilitation Program to help farmers impacted by the financial losses.
MFP for 2019, authorized under the Commodity Credit Corp. and administered by the Farm Service Agency, will provide $14.5 billion in direct payments to producers with the first of possibly three payments coming in late July or early August after the Farm Service Agency crop reporting is completed.

Five years ago Michael Moore made a life-changing decision, and it turned out to be “the best decision I ever made.” Moore returned to the western Illinois farm he grew up on to raise crops and cattle with his parents, Ron and Deb Moore. In his youth, the now fourth generation on the family’s farm founded in 1913, raised cattle to show at the county fair and the Prime Beef Festival in Monmouth, walked beans, baled hay and all of the other chores that go along with keeping the operation going.

Market growth: Alternative markets for U.S. soybeans

As the rollercoaster trade negotiations with China continue to stumble along, the U.S. Soybean Export Council keeps the pedal to the metal to find new soy markets across the globe. The great unknown is when or if China, the top buyer of U.S. soybeans, will be a return customer or seek other sources to fill its soy needs once the trade battle concludes. China imported a record 36 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans in 2016.
