Government of Canada Support for Small Businesses

This week the Government of Canada announced two new programs as part of the Climate Action Incentive Fund (CAIF). These programs will be dependent upon passage of the Budget Implementation Act and subsequent decisions by the Minister of Finance.
Summary of these programs:
  1. CAIF SME Project program - funding for larger energy-efficiency retrofit projects undertaken by small- and medium-sized businesses. SMEs would be eligible to receive up to 25% of their energy-efficient project costs, with funding ranging between $20,000 and $250,000. SMEs in all sectors are eligible to apply to the Fund. Applications will open in the coming weeks.
  2. CAIF Rebate program - for the purchase of specified energy-efficient equipment. The rebate would cover up to 50% of eligible costs, up to a maximum amount of $20,000 per applicant. There is no minimum amount per application. The Minister plans to release details about the rebate program in June.
  • Total 2019-20 funding for Ontario SMEs = $102 million
