Principal's Welcome

Welcome to MacArthur Middle School, home of the Marauders!

All of our concerts are done for the season. There is one more game left on the basketball schedule. Everything is beginning to wrap up this portion of the year.

When we return in January, our girls volleyball season begins, wrestling begins their competitive season, and Poms/Cheer has their Winter Showcase.

We will also have a new round of clubs and activities starting up. Be on the look out for American Sign Language club, floor hockey intra-murals, bowling club, and the Spring Play!

This has been a great year so far and I can't wait to see what our Marauders get done in the last half of the year!

**Please refrain from entering the MacArthur parking lot for regular pick-ups until 2:40. This will allow the Sullivan parents to clear out of the lanes. As the weather gets colder, the number of car riders increases. There shouldn't be any conflicts if we use the parking lot from 7:40-8:00am in the morning and 2:40-3:00pm in the afternoon. Thank you in advance!!

MacArthur Vocal & Instrumental Music

The MacArthur Chorus students have been working hard this year, and have already had a few small performances: we teamed up with the Sullivan Chorus during the Fall Family Fest in October, sang for local veterans at our Veterans Day Celebration in November, the 7th and 8th graders learned a Lion King medley with the choirs at Hersey and River Trails in November. This Tuesday, we had our winter concert. In the words of the students: "We're still learning, but it was fun. I like how we included other traditions. You could hear our friends and family singing along in our last song, and you could tell that they all really enjoyed it. The livestream was nice so that folks can watch it at home (and it's still on YouTube!). And the hot cocoa was tasty and the cookies were amazing!" We are looking forward to our field trip to local retirement homes and Eisenhower next week!

The MacArthur Orchestras performed their Winter Concert on December 7, 2022. Here they are performing the combined last piece, Carol of the Bells with a few special guests. They also recently traveled to play a guest spot in the Hersey High School Orchestra Concert!

Band is not wasting any time on the next concert! Now that this week's is all done, it is time to select the pieces for the next concert. Will it be Chimes of Liberty, Alligator Alley, or Barnum and Bailey's Favorite?

6th Grade ELA/SS

In ELA class, 6th grade students are working in stations where they are finishing up writing their “Unexpected Event Leads to a Major Challenge” narratives. They are applying writing skills from StudySync mini-lessons to their own writing. Also, in their station’s groups, they are able to discuss and peer review their writing, getting valuable feedback on how to improve their writing through the revision process.

In SS class, 6th grade students are working on the Pyramid Challenge, where they will be engineering and building a pyramid as the Ancient Egyptians did around 4,500 years ago. Fun Fact: It is still a mystery on how pyramids were built as there have been no building plans found. The students have taken on this challenge, building the highest and sturdiest pyramid with toothpicks and marshmallows.

Thank you to the PTO and all those who support the organization. They were able to sponsor our annual Egyptian history play again! It has become such a prized event for our 6th graders each year!

Spanish Class

7th Grade Spanish

Encuentros en La Plaza

7th graders are making cultural comparisons of  a famous “Plazas” in a Spanish-speaking city or town.  Thinking about how these places compare to some outdoor places in our area.

8th Grade Spanish

Día De Los Muertos

Las Calaveras- 8th graders did a cultural study of “Día De Los Muertos” and decorations used for the holiday.

In collaboration with Ms. Kyeon the 8th graders were able to create their own “Calaveras” out of clay.
