Teen Book Club

Join our Teen Book Club where members get to choose the books that we read. Have a book you want to discuss? Let us know and we'll add it to the list! And if you don't have a copy of the book already, we'll provide one for you. Each week, we discuss a section of the book we're currently reading. Discussions are casual and fun, so come by to hang out and talk about great books!

To get a copy of the book we'll be reading, please register for the event and then schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment by calling 367-4405.

Crafty Story Time

Join us for the Zoom edition of Crafty Story Time for young children from ages 2-5! As with our in-person story time programs, we'll practice early literacy skills in a playful, supportive environment filled with music, rhymes, active learning, and of course, books! Need assistance with your homework or having trouble figuring out some concepts? Come join volunteers from Volunteer Illini Projects every other Wednesday to work together, while also having fun, in getting school work done.

Unmasked: Writers of Oya Book Release

The talented Writers of Oya are celebrating the release of their first book, Unmasked.  Join us at this Facebook event to hear their poetry and learn more about their experiences and what they want to tell the world.  Come celebrate their work and learn how you can get your own a copy of their newly released book.

The Writers of Oya project aims to teach middle school girls, particularly girls of color, how to compose poetry as a skill to both express and assert themselves. Poet Ashanti Files moderates the group.

Jump Into Science: Kinetic Sand

Do you love science experiments? Then join us to create your own kinetic sand!

Have fun with science in this Jump Into Science series presented by the Graduate Society of Women Engineers at the U of I in collaboration with The Urbana Free Library. Participants will make kinetic sand, which unlike regular sand, sticks together and can be molded into different shapes.

Participants who register can schedule a Curbside Pickup to get a kinetic sand kit at The Urbana Free Library (available starting February 10th), and join the Zoom meeting on February 20th. Registrants will receive their Zoom link on the day of the program.

Come learn about the craft of making Chinese Paper Fans! Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio with University of Illinois student Natalie Wess, who will introduce our young participants to handmade red fans inspired by the story of the Chinese Lunar New Year. By the end, participants will have a beautifully decorated fan to keep!

The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public.
