As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank Jamie Loving, our outgoing PTSA President, for her leadership and dedication to our students and school. Under Jamie’s leadership the PTSA funded and coordinated fun and enriching events for our students, such as last week’s ANGP party, Science Olympiad National Competition, Ethics Day, Career Connections and DIVERSEartLANGLEY. She facilitated grants to the Science, World Languages and Performing Arts departments in support of those academic programs, and funded awards recognizing student achievement like the PTSA Service and Outstanding Citizenship Awards. Through her weekly messages she communicated with parents, ensuring we were fully aware of all information and resources available to help us guide our students. Finally, she worked tirelessly to support our teachers, administrators and staff.
Jamie, It was a pleasure working with you this year as President-Elect. On behalf of the PTSA officers, executive board members, general members and volunteers, thank you for all the time and hard work you put into making the 2022-2023 school year a success!

The Scott Stone Memorial Award for Outstanding Citizenship is awarded annually to two Langley seniors who throughout their years at Langley demonstrated qualities of outstanding character, leadership, and humanitarianism. The winners, nominated by Langley faculty and selected by Langley administrators, have greatly contributed to the community with random acts of kindness, friendly rapport with peers and faculty, compassion for others, and by serving as positive role models. In memory of Langley science teacher Scott Stone, this award, presented with $500, is given to students whose enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and citizenship made Langley a better place to go to school. This year's winners are Brian Schlegel and Tess Jannery-Barney. Congratulations!

Reflecting Langley's emphasis on service, the PTSA Service Award recognizes a student in his or her junior year who demonstrates excellence in volunteerism and who is committed to making a difference in our community. This year we had a tie, and each student was awarded $250. Congratulations to winners Ryan Dadoo and Kevin Lee!

Congratulations to Ashley Khang, who is one of 23 FCPS students from ten high schools named winners of 2023 Merit Scholarship awards by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The students are part of a group of more than 3,000 National Merit finalists chosen to receive scholarships financed by higher education institutions. Ashley will attend the University of Southern California and plans to study neuroscience.

Saxon Stage had a great showing at the Cappies Awards at the Kennedy Center this past Monday night! Saxon Stage was nominated in seven categories for their fall play The Man Who Came To Dinner: Best Play, Best Set, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Comic Actress, Best Featured Actor and Best Featured Actress.
Saxon Stage won in these categories:
Best Leading Actor in a Female Role in a Play: Sarah Hilton
Best Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Play: Joana Lima Alves Montenegro
Honorable Mention: The Langley Critics team
As a best play nominee, they got to perform a three-minute scene from the show and the audience laughed for days!

This is the final notice to order your leaf for Langley's Legacy Tree! This courtyard fundraiser is wrapping up. Orders for the Legacy Tree will continue only through the end of this school year. No leaf orders will be accepted next year. If you would like to order a leaf for the tree, now is the time!
Consider helping to "grow" the Legacy Tree and complete the courtyard renovation project by donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200), and bird or acorn ($500). You choose the engraved message!

The Legacy Tree is a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, coaches, and grads!

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up by 11 am tomorrow, Jun 16. Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded. Over-the-counter medications may be picked up by a student, but all prescription medications must be picked up by a parent or guardian. Questions? Summer internships are available with the IT Team at Langley! Internships are 9 am-2 pm during the weeks of Jul 18, Jul 25, Aug 1 and Aug 8.
These internships offer hands-on experience with IT maintenance and support. Interns will also gain a better understanding of Langley HS and FCPS IT support model. No IT experience is required but students should have an interest in IT. Service hours are available (up to twenty-five hours a week). Priority will be given to those who get their applications in early and those who can commit for longer lengths of time. Complete this form using your FCPS Google Workspace login if you are interested.

ANGP was an enormous success this year! Brand new Langley alums celebrated graduation night at the Oak Marr Rec Center with tunes from Megawatt DJ, two Casino game rooms, three pools, mini-golf and a parking lot full of inflatables. Impressive raffle prizes, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, subs, doughnuts and snacks kept everyone energized all night so they could enjoy the fun activities and camaraderie of their classmates.
Many thanks to Mary Lee and the dozens of volunteers for making ANGP happen. Congratulations, Class of 2023. We wish you the best!

FCPS has a newly published SEL Instructional Materials website. Families can explore the resources available to schools as they plan for Morning Meeting, Closing Circle, and Responsive Advisory Meetings. Schools may choose other activities as long as they are aligned with these practices and SEL skill development. Contact your principal for information about particular resources used at your child’s school.

proposed new equity policy: The FCPS School Board made public the proposed new Equity Policy this week. The policy was developed over this past year, and it is scheduled to be reviewed at a School Board work session on Jun 21 and then voted on at the June 26 School Board meeting. The policy will be implemented during the 2023-24 school year.
Targeted areas of action include:

Explicit opportunities for engagement of marginalized students in school and division decision-making.

Access to scaffolds and supports in Tier 1 instruction.

Universal accessibility for students with disabilities.

Access to information and personnel for multilingual families.

boys tennis: Congratulations to the Langley Boys tennis team, who won the State Championship this year after a gap of 29 years! The last time the Langley boys tennis team won was in 1994, so it’s a wonderful moment and a big achievement for the boys tennis team and their coaches.
Co-captains Adi Gupta and Nikola Galov won the individual state championship in doubles as well.
Co-captain and senior Ian Starban said winning the state championship was the best graduation gift he could ever have!

girls tennis: At the State Championship in Newport News, the Langley Girls Tennis Team claimed the state title for the second year in a row! With a resounding 5-0 win over Freedom HS that meant doubles were never even played, Langley capped off a perfect season without a single defeat in divisional, regional or state play. Zosia Henryson-Gibbs, Arakai Henryson-Gibbs and Erica Maebius had perfect seasons with Noelle Talarek, Penny Walke and Caitlin Cry delivering at critical times in close matches against McLean, Madison and Oakton. Zosia and Noelle also claimed the state title for doubles.
To top it off, this is the Langley Girls’ 11th State Championship, tied with our golf program for most in school history! Congratulations!

athlete registration: Athlete Registration is now open for the 2023-24 school year. If your child is interested in participating in sports next school year, the following must be completed prior to trying out for a team:

Each athlete must register on the FCPS Athlete Registration Website. Registration must be done each year. If you registered for the 2022-23 school year, you need to re-register for the 2023-24 school year. Click here to register your child.

A physical completed after May 1, 2023. The physical must be done on the official VHSL form that can be found here. You can send the completed VHSL form to [email protected].

summer college application and writing workshop: Students, members of the Class of 2024 are invited to register for the popular Summer College Application and Essay Writing Workshop, which will take place Mon, Aug 14 and Tue, Aug 15 from 9 am–12 pm. Students will spend two days hearing from and working with admissions staff from various colleges and universities on their college applications and essays.
Space is limited and requires registration and payment. This event is only open to current members of the Class of 2024. Registration will open on Mon, Jul 3 in MySchoolBucks.

law enforcement: The Fairfax County Police Department offers summer programs for youth wishing to explore careers in law enforcement and learn about policing. Teen Police Academy and Future Women Leaders in Law Enforcement offer opportunities for attendees to learn about the police profession, understand core police functions and participate in hands-on activities.
