Happy Friday, snippeteers ... our household this morning was invaded by two electricians knocking on the front door at 7:30 a.m. who showed up to wire a new cooktop. Soon after, the doorbell rang again with two more guys arriving to install the cooktop. Four different guys are traipsing in and out of the front door, the back door, and up and down the basement steps. There is noisy drilling and hammering and talking, with a spread of tools, boxes, and gear across the deck and around the kitchen. The old cooktop is sitting on the front steps and there's a gaping hole in the countertop.
That's okay. I wasn't making bacon and eggs anyhow this morning. This is a change I created myself - ditching a greasy 23-year-old broken-knobbed cooktop for a fresh one. The "upheaval" is temporary. The workers will be finished and gone in a bit, they will have cleaned up their mess, the pots and pans will be placed back under the cabinet, the puppy will calm down from the ruckus and excitement of new people petting him, and maybe for dinner I'll make a yummy shrimp concoction on my new stove.
Whenever we invite in change - or when change forces its way into our lives - there is bound to be an upheaval. Things may be messy for a while, parts of us may be scattered all over, and we may feel annoyance and noise as it's happening. It will be a disruption in our routine until we establish the new normal.
Hopefully sooner than later, it will all grow calmer for you. After the switch, the dust will settle and things will fall into place with the new situation.
For whatever current change you're experiencing ... keep in mind the upheaval is temporary ... and a fresh change can be good.
