Vermont Railways passenger rain

Mass Bay RRE returns to Vermont this fall with our 'WHITEHALL FLYER' train excursion over the Vermont Railway's Green Mountain Railroad line from Bellows Falls to the railroad's hub at Rutland, and then westward over the Clarendon & Pittsford Railroad to Whitehall, NY. Operated in partnership with the Amherst Railway Society, this exclusive specially-chartered train continues our 89-year tradition of offering distinctive rail excursions to the public.

Our train will depart from the Amtrak Station in Bellows Falls at 9:45 AM. We'll head northwest through Chester and then on to Rutland, climbing the 2% grade through Ludlow to Summit. From there we descend another 2% grade, crossing the photogenic Cuttingsville Trestle. After a half-hour stopover in Rutland, our train will continue on to the junction with CPKC at Whitehall, NY. Following a short stopover to change ends, we'll leave Whitehall for the return trip to Bellows Falls, with an estimated arrival around 7:30 PM.

This will be the first Mass Bay RRE excursion over both the Green Mountain Railroad and the Clarendon & Pittsfield since our excursion back in May, 2004, and the first time that we have been able to cover the entire route in a single day.

Our train will consist of coaches and table cars from the Green Mountain Railroad's "Green Fleet."

Near right: Coach seats.

Far right: table seats.

Deluxe first-class accommodations for 10 passengers are available aboard the Business/Observation Car MacIntyre 4.

Far left: MacIntyre 4 Dining Room. Near left: MacIntyre 4 rear lounge.

Current Mass Bay RRE and Amherst Railway Society members are eligible for reduced fares and preferred seating if available. See our member benefits policy for complete details.

Train capacity is limited to just 140 passengers! We will assign seats by car only and will reserve blocks of seats for groups of four or more. Box lunches are available for advance purchase, or you may bring your own food. Light snack and beverage service will be available on board the train during the trip.

A handout describing our train's route will be distributed to all passengers. Reprints of the complete 'Route Description and Historical Notes' by J. Leonard Bachelder, from our September 1993 excursions over these lines will be available for $20 (advance purchase recommended).

This trip operates ONE DAY ONLY, rain or shine. All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. We will send driving directions to the departure location with your tickets about a week prior to the trip. Please notify us if special accommodations (ie, handicap seating, etc.) are required.

Note: This excursion operates using vintage railroad equipment that is not fully handicap-accessible. Please contact us before ordering if special accommodations or handicap-accessible seating are required.
