South Dakota First Responder Advocacy Training, August 4, 1-3pm Central/12-3pm Mountain. For people with disabilities, disability advocates and those invested in the disability community. This two-hour training provides guidance on how to advocate with first responders, inform them of your needs, be a partner with first responder agencies, and become a resource for those agencies. Upon completion of a five-step follow-up program, participants will receive a certificate and be recognized as a FRAT Advocate. EARLY LITERACY FOR FAMILIES & PROVIDERS - FREE AND ONLINE

Learn strategies to support young children’s language and literacy skills to increase their school readiness in home and childcare environments. Participants will learn to apply evidence-based strategies in personalized ways. A $100 stipend is available for all providers and family members from South Dakota who complete the class, and providers who attend with a family member of a child they support will receive an additional $25!

FREE HEARING TESTS FOR CHILDREN AGES BIRTH TO 21

SD School for the Deaf offers free hearing tests to SD children who have not yet graduated from high school. If you are a parent, childcare provider or school, contact SDSD to learn more and schedule free hearing tests at a time and place that works for your family or facility.

FREE VIRTUAL TRAINING FOR ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH - MANAGING EMOTIONS AND SELF REGULATION

During this free, interactive training, youth will learn strategies and coping mechanisms. The same information is presented at each session but participants are welcome to attend it multiple times if they wish to do so.

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Alongside Network. Support for families of children who have experienced a life-threatening illness or injury. 

EMBRACED Study. Parents and caregivers of children on the autism spectrum ages 5-10 are invited to complete a short online survey on the relations between a set of mental skills called executive functions and emotions and behaviors in young children with autism. The survey will take 30 minutes or less to complete. If interested, participants will also be entered into a raffle drawing for one of four $50 Amazon gift cards. The survey is being conducted by researchers from Seattle Pacific University.

Survey by SD Independent Living Council. Persons with disabilities, family members, and others are invited to help the SD Statewide Independent Living Council learn what South Dakotans with significant disabilities need in order to live independently in their homes and communities. The survey is voluntary and anonymous.
