This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Center for Disabilities at the University of South Dakota USD Sanford School of Medicine. The Center for Disabilities was established in 1971 as part of a national network of federally-designated centers now known as University Centers for Excellence in Development Disabilities, Education, Research and Service (UCEDDS).

HELPLINE CENTER NOW OFFERING LYFT RIDES FOR COVID-19 VACCINE APPOINTMENTS

The Helpline Center, in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Health, is excited to announce the launch of a new service that will provide free Lyft rides for individuals to their COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

Individuals in Aberdeen, Brookings, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Watertown (and those within 20 miles of any of these communities) are eligible for this free service. Learn More 
USING 'SOCIAL STORIES' TO EASE THE TRANSITION BACK

"Social stories" are reassuring yet directive narratives that help children learn to manage problems or unfamiliar situations. Here, an expert teaches parents and educators how to use a social story to smooth the return to the classroom for students with ADHD and/or autism, including an example you can adapt
FAMILY VOICES WANTS TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

In partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Family Voices is hosting the first of 3 focus groups to learn what families of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN), young adults with special health care needs, and families of CYSHCN who live in congregate care settings understand about influenza vaccines, vaccine hesitancy, access to vaccine in various settings, and concerns and special considerations for congregate care settings.
