Robertson works at the intersection of visual art and environmental studies. The West Kootenay Camera Club (WKCC) is hosting its 35th annual Photo Show. The club’s objective is to promote the interest in Photographic Arts in the West Kootenay area of BC. Members are from the surrounding community of Castlegar, the Greater Trail area, Nelson, and Balfour.

The exhibition follows the club’s long-running Photo Salon print competition, which is open to photographers of all skill levels across the region and beyond.

News Release - Keeping people safe with new mental health screening tool for police in Interior Health

Police agencies, health-care providers and people in crisis in the Interior will benefit from the launch of a digital public safety tool to support officer response to people in crisis.

HealthIM launched in the Boundary, Okanagan and West Kootenay regions on April 29, 2026, with the Thompson and Shuswap regions expected to launch on Wednesday, May 27, 2026
This evidence-based, risk-screening tool supports police response with mental-health-related calls
Overall, HealthIM outcomes have been positive: 46% decrease in apprehensions, 39% reduction in hospital wait times, and 37% increase in hospital admission rates.

"..The positive impact of HealthIM in other Interior communities has been evident over the past several months, and we are pleased about this expansion to the Kootenay Boundary, Okanagan and Thompson Cariboo regions."

Council approved the Annual Tax Rate Bylaw No. 3663, 2026 for adoption.
Council approved a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) for dental services at 318 Anderson Street.

News Release - HealthIM Implementation Advances Across Remaining RCMP Southeast District in Interior British Columbia

A significant milestone in British Columbia’s coordinated approach to mental health crisis response has been reached with the near-complete rollout of HealthIM across the RCMP Southeast District, with final implementation expected in the coming weeks.

HealthIM is now operational across the majority of the Southeast District, including detachments in the Central Okanagan, South Okanagan, North Okanagan and West Kootenay regions. With the Thompson/Cariboo region expected to go live in the coming weeks, the rollout will complete HealthIM expansion across Interior British Columbia.

When someone is hungry/tired/needs a break from the elements, and not able to pay, they can access the suspended fund to cover the cost of their meal or a muffin or a hot cup of coffee. Wait's on Nelson currently serves approximately 15 suspended meals per day - more on weekends. That's in the 420 meals per month range!

Sproule Creek Bridge Replacement Project

The Sproule Creek Trail, located just outside Nelson, BC, follows a historic route first established in the early 1900s during the mining and logging era. This beautiful valley once featured a wagon road and a narrow-gauge railway built by the A.G. Lambert Lumber Co. between 1919 and 1930. Today, hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, snowshoers, and cross-country skiers enjoy this multi-use trail system; walking through a living piece of West Kootenay history. The Friends of Pulpit Rock Society is proud to hold the contract to maintain the Sproule Creek Trail system. We are now raising funds to complete a critical safety upgrade: replacing three aging trail bridges.

Gentle Resistance by Tracy Fillion - This ongoing project began with an interest in the intersection of design, sport, and feminism, and has evolved into a space to hold and transform growing internalized rage in response to widespread social, environmental, and human rights violations. The boxing glove serves as a central form—both a symbol of conflict and a container for emotion. Constructed through the slow, deliberate process of hand weaving and textile assembly, the work holds a tension between method and feeling: a quiet, careful making that contrasts with an undercurrent of anger.

Still Life...and Death by Tamara Koenig-Fraser - a third generation Kootenay child, born and raised in Nelson, who was lured away from this beautiful valley by the excitement and possibilities of Cities. The contrasts were stimulating and expansive but the Lake and Forests eventually called her home. Kaslo has held her since 1989.
Riven by Maggie Tchir - explores “our humanity; the relationships we cultivate with others through our personal and collective voices, highlighting global environmental and social justice/political viewpoints”. Her practice is process-based with a strong interest in materiality and making. She lives and maintains a studio in Nelson.
