NEWS

Sweetheart Soirée - Tonight

To all the girls and their dates attending the Sweetheart Soiree tonight, we wish you a beautiful evening. We hope it is filled with dancing, laughter, and makes for special memories. The dance begins at 7pm; please enter at the gym doors. Many thanks to the FSA and 6th-grade parent volunteers who have worked diligently to plan this special evening, and to all those who volunteered to help at the event or contribute treats.

No School on Monday

There is no school this Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Please take the opportunity to reflect on the life and work of this vital leader in the Civil Rights Movement. MLK Day is designated as a National Day of Service. Let's honor Dr. King's legacy through service and volunteerism. Helping out at an organization or with a neighbor in need, whether your acts are large or small, let them be filled with kindness and love.

Welcome Ms. Wolf

Join us in welcoming our newest teacher, Ms. Elizabeth Wolf. Following a comprehensive interview process, Ms. Wolf has enthusiastically accepted the mid-year position for Junior High Math. Ms. Wolf joins us with teaching experience abroad and has recently relocated to Chicago. She is intelligent, engaging, and authentic, and we are honored to have her as part of our teaching team.

CAUSES WE CARE ABOUT

Black History Month

In February, we come together to celebrate, learn, honor, and cherish Black History Month. Our Culture Club, staff, and BHM Parent Committee are hard at work planning our School Mass to begin the month on Tuesday, February 3, and our School Assembly to close out the celebration on Friday, February 27.

To celebrate Black History Month, we invite all families to purchase spirit wear. T-shirts, hoodies, and crewnecks are available to purchase through February 1. All items will be delivered in mid-February in time for students to wear them at the BHM Assembly and any Friday Spirit Wear Days throughout the year. All proceeds will benefit Culture Club and UNCF. Shop the collection.

Charity Dress Down - next Friday

Next Friday, January 23, all students are encouraged to contribute $3 for Get Behind the Vest and dress down in blue to show appreciation for our St. Barnabas police families and to support all members of the Chicago Police Department for their dedication. Contribute online or bring $3 cash to school.

Pat Mac Day

Save the Date and make plans for a shave or hair trim! Pat Mac Day, celebrating the life and legacy of Patrick McNamara and supporting the St. Baldrick's Foundation will be on Friday, March 6 (an 11:50am dismissal day). Details coming soon on how your family can take part.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Open House - Sunday, January 25

Please gather as a parish and school community for the 10am Mass. After Mass, visit the school to tour classrooms, then visit the gym for shared treats and conversation with leaders of our auxiliary boards and student activities. We ask each of you to think of your friends and neighbors and encourage any prospective families to register for a school tour! Learn more and help share the Open House details!

Desserts for Open House - Sunday, January 25

Please consider making a contribution of homemade or store-bought treats to share - cookies, small cupcakes, donuts, candies, brownies, etc. that can be shared with all current and prospective families at our Open House. Learn more and sign-up here to help out.

Grandparents Mass - Tuesday, January 27. Please invite grandparents to join the school community for our weekly 8:45am mass. Following the mass, grandparent guests are invited to a coffee reception in the school's Main Hall. Note - students will have an opportunity for a quick hello, but will not be seated with their grandparents during mass.

Honoring Veterans. As part of CSW, we honor our loved ones who have served in the Armed Forces with our Hall of Heroes. If you have a family member who has served or is currently serving in the military, please send in a photo along with this brief description sheet so we may honor them on our Hall of Heroes wall.

Vocation Panel - Friday, January 30. Each year, we host a panel of professionals to speak to our students about their careers. If you (or a friend or family member) are passionate about your job and interested in speaking with the students on Friday morning (~ 8:45am - 9:45am) please fill out the interest form

Fun Food - Friday, January 30.

Friday, January 30, the FSA is coordinating Fun Food with Home Run Inn. On Fun Food days, our normal Country House Hot Lunch service is not available. The ordering window for Home Run Inn has now closed; all students must have a Fun Food order or bring a bagged lunch from home.
