I grew up in the Midwest where I completed my undergraduate education at Indiana University in Bloomington. My medical training took place at the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago followed by a three-year medical and surgical residency program at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center/Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
My residency curriculum included presenting lectures at state meetings, regional, and national conferences as well as poster presentations. The titles and content of the lectures presented derived from my primary podiatric interests; Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture Repair / Sports Medicine, Surgical Reconstruction of Charcot Neuroarthropathy / Rear-foot Reconstruction and Successful Healing of Traumatic Wound with Use of a Human Fibroblast Derived Dermal Substitute / Wound Care.
The experience I gained in the course of pursuing these interests and working with patients has led me to understand the importance of patient education as a fundamental ideology in podiatry practice.
After moving to the Portland, Oregon area and joining an established podiatry practice, it was noticed that while I was helping people, there was a larger need in the community. I decided to obtain Corrective Step Foot Health Center (https://correctivestep.com/)
with a new patient education centered ideology. With the belief that people should not be talked at, but rather explained their conditions and treatment options.
With patient education as the main goal, as well as providing optimal care, I am focused on catering to the needs of each patient I encounter. In 2014 I became the Oregon Podiatric Medical Association Secretary, which is a position I still hold. Over the next couple of years, being a part of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine certifications and in-training exam questions committee have occupied my time.
In 2018 the International Limb Salvage Foundation (http://intlimbsf.com/) was founded to help other healthcare providers gain the knowledge and skillset to help with limb preservation. As one of the founding board trustees, we have been able to sponsor trips and activities to further education and help with saving limbs in Western Africa.
In 2019 I became a board-certified wound care specialist from the American Board of Wound Care Management.
