Dear
,
Happy October and nearly November!
Lots happening in "studio world" so take a few minutes to let me chat with you.  In this issue:
  • HUGE News to tell you about a Byrdcall Studio "Acquisition" but it will have to wait until the next newsletter so I don't jinx the transaction.  Stay tuned.
  • Next Big Show:  The Mistletoe Mart--Nov. 7, 8, 9
  • New wool and linen rya rug backing from Finland available
  • Sheep Art Submitted to Sheep & Wool Fest
  • Calling All Rya Rug Makers:  Got any thing to add to my Instructional Book?
  • Fun Projects of September and October:  martini glasses, a logo design, pint glasses, and did I mention writing a book?
Working on writing my book with a little help from my ghost writer Lab Assi
My Lab Assistant helps me by editing my book.

I don't mean to be a tease, but...

Most of my last month or two has been putting energy into a major purchase to really amp up part of my services and art creations.   I really wish I could tell you more, but I must wait another week to make sure all goes as planned.  Next newsletter, the cat will be out of the bag, so to speak.  ;-)

My next big show is the Mistletoe Mart
November 7, 8, and 9th
I'll be in Room 209 again this year. Bring a shopping list with sizes.
Click on the link to the right under the Save The Dates section for details.  This is a three day show, and I would sure love to see you there.

I hand-print my shirts from 25 different woodcuts and linocuts that I design and carve. Yes, I actually rub the shirt on the block with a wooden spoon to permanently transfer the ink. I also have several silk-screened designs including my latest "Raven in Flight". If I don't have the shirt in the size, color, style, and design that you want, I will custom print and mail it to you within 2-3 weeks at no additional cost (except postage). Looking forward to seeing you.

New Wool & Linen Rya backings now available in any length.

For those of you hoping and waiting for a new wool & linen rya rug backing supply, I just bought 10 meters of a 27" (or 70 cm) floor quality backing.  I'll hem it to any length you request:  $27 per linear foot.

Working towards a new goal when your plate is already too full.

For nearly two decades now I have intended to submit my original art work the the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival for their poster competition.  This year was going to be a tough year to accomplish that goal.   Click here to read more of this story.

Rya Rug Makers-- You know who you are!  I could use your help.

As I mentioned last month, I am working very hard to complete a comprehensive guide to the Art of Off-Loom Rya Rug Making.  To date over 87,000 people have watched my video and many of them are eager to make a rya rug.  If you have experience in rya work or you have developed your own techniques, tips, or tricks towards success, please email me with your personal stories.  I would love to quote you in my instructional book.  Do you have, or could you take photos of your rya masterpieces in your homes on the floor or on the wall?  I can't guarantee that I will be able to use all the stories or images submitted, but I would like to try to include your experiences. I also am not paying for your tips (I'm a cheapskate!), but I will give you credit by name for anything I can add to the book.  (David? Linda? and the rest of you:  What do you say?)  I'm hoping to have the writing finished in November.

Last, but not Least ... Recent fun Projects

Peggy Haser from Sykesville, MD is opening her own Personal Chef business this month.  I was honored to be asked to design her logo.
Check out her latest endeavor:  Find Peggy here at Splendid Suppers

And let's see if Nancy is reading this...
Nancy requested a tropical green tree frog on a martini glass last month.  I was feeling frisky so I painted two of them.  So, Nancy, one of these is yours--come and get it.  The other is available to any martini-loving tree frog fan.

See you next month....Thanks for your interest in my work.

I love hearing from you, so let me know if you are enjoying these newsletters....otherwise, I'll just assume you are.  Have a great fall, friends.  It means the world to me that you are interested in my artwork and adventures.  I hope you enjoy the fall as much as I know I will.

Cheers,
Melinda
